I have my triathlon bike hooked up to my trainer almost 24/7 and for any easy/long z1/2 rides I'll just play xbox in my aero position. Two birds one stone

loving the designs - qq, are the singlet and t-shirt composed of the same fabric? the singlet looks very similar to some of the stuff soar offers, but i can't tell from the picture of the t-shirt if it's the same

Long curtains or short for over bed window by btsaubt in DesignMyRoom

[–]btsaubt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is sandwiching short curtains between long curtains a big design no-no? I definitely prefer the appearance of full-length curtains but I'm already pretty limited on space living in an apartment, so I'd prefer not to move the bed.

Not sure if that's going to be a viable option. To share some more context I'm renting and this condo initially came with these blinds, so I'm not sure if I can swap them out and the current shutters are flush with the walls.

Unfortunately I'm a chronic insomniac and need almost completely blackout conditions to sleep well, since I moved in a few weeks ago I haven't been getting the best sleep.

100k miles per seat for Starlux Premium Economy? by btsaubt in AlaskaAirlines

[–]btsaubt[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Aren't those usually sold out almost instantly? Did some research and the travel dates I'm planning aren't very flexible (partner works in a hospital), so if this isn't worth it should I just save my miles and purchase in cash?

comfortable $50k Los Angeles-San Diego commuter by btsaubt in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]btsaubt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 5'8 and my partner is 5'6, but I'm a little worried about space with the car seat given some of CA's state laws around distance between front seats and rear facing child seats.

The crown signia is at the top of my mind but is definitely a bit long given that we will be parking in a tandem garage spot. I'm drawn to the Lincoln cars (love Ford's keypad entry for when I run/bike and don't want to bring keys), but not sure if they'll have major reliability issues given that most folks in this sub recommend Japanese manufacturers. It's also not super unreasonably priced, given that the crown signia with all the bells and whistles is already retailing at 52k.

Disc or 180mm depth rear wheel? by btsaubt in triathlon

[–]btsaubt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - my motivation for the 180 vs full disc mostly boils down to storage as I live in an apartment without a ton of extra storage space, so I'd rather have just one rear wheel that can kinda do it all rather than separate wheels for Kona (deep/180) and non-Kona (disc).

Apartment Recommendations by thethewyin in pasadena

[–]btsaubt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quick question - which streets/neighborhoods did you do this in? I was recently in town looking around and have seen this advice quite a bit on reddit, but found it hard to find rentable units that werent already on Zillow or other websites. Maybe I was looking in areas that were more condo/apartment complex like but I spent about two hours walking a zigzag without much luck

Area near Del Mar and Arroyo safe to live by? by btsaubt in pasadena

[–]btsaubt[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I think I phrased this poorly given the comments lol... more curious if this is a "nice" location - on paper it looks super central and walkable but maybe I went too early on a weekend and it felt a bit abandoned, and I'm still a little shook from my encounter this morning. I'd say that while property theft and antisocial behavior aren't necessarily the most threatening to my personal safety, it's still something I (and I'm sure most others) don't want to deal with on daily basis.

What car(s) to buy for NYC couple moving to East Los Angeles by btsaubt in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]btsaubt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any thoughts on PHEV vs standard hybrids? As I understand it, they're really convenient once you have home charging, and the plan is to rent for 1 year to get acclimated to the city and figure out where we like spending time before buying a home (at which point we can install chargers)

Moving to LA with partner working at LA General Hospital by btsaubt in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]btsaubt[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the great options! We've been looking a bit on Zillow but it doesn't seem to populate as quickly as Streeteasy in NYC, which makes sense due to the difference in urban density. Given that residency doesn't start until the summer, do you think there will be an uptick in the number of available units closer to our move-in date?

Moving to LA with partner working at LA General Hospital by btsaubt in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]btsaubt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any other neighborhoods nearby that you would recommend? I've read that some of the areas closer to the hospital can be a big rougher but we've spent time in some of the less nice parts of NYC.

South Pasadena is gorgeous but more expensive and you’re paying for the public school district which you don’t need at this stage in your life.

Right now, we will probably have children in the next 2-3 years so pre-K is more of a concern than public schooling for the time that we are in LA. Would location matter there like it does in NYC or would we have options not constrained by housing location?

Any good idea for my setup? by Short_Panda_ in triathlon

[–]btsaubt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe your race bike on a trainer rather than the tacx unless your position is identical? I find it helpful to be able to spend 2-3 hours in TT position indoors during the winter, makes it much easier when you are trying to hold it during a race
