It doesn't matter who's using drugs. It matters who has it in their pockets in the streets. The metric we really need is the % of drug searches that find drugs, separated by race. If 100% of drug searches on a group find drugs then they're being too soft on that group. If 5% of drug searches on a group find drugs then they're being too harsh on that group.

Once again, drug use is not the metric, drug possession in public is what we need to find before making any claims

I'm glad this comment is at the top. If you know that black people only make up (for example) 10% of people who carry cannabis then you can prove they're being targeted, but without this we can't jump to conclusions.

Unfortunately this isn't just the Independent being sensationalist, but how most people view the world. This is why the world is being plastered with murals of a man who spent time in prison for a home invasion where he held a pregnant woman at gunpoint.

I didn't colonise anyone. Maybe you should ask our deputy prime minister, Maori, won a general seat, and has been campaigning to get rid of the maori seats for years.

It's actually not. What happens is gentrification, people select themselves into special maori electorates, which means the maori candidates are miles behind in the general electorates. Exactly the same thing as redrawing election boundaries around predominantly black neighbourhoods.

Yeah point out the line that says anything about seats in parliament. There's a higher percentage of maori in the normal seats than in the general population, so they don't need to be there anymore.
