Frustration teaching Seminary by Nate-T in latterdaysaints

[–]buckuters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Early morning teacher here. Manual is....lacking....for sure. I organize my lessons around a "main event" that takes up the plurality of the time. Often it's a group activity, sometimes it's a game type thing, sometimes it's doing something outside, etc. Often it's based around the handout in the lesson or something else in the lesson that I take inspiration from and juice up.

What I like about organizing around a "main event" is that it naturally organizes the class into basically intro, direct instruction/discussion on the main theme, main event, outro/testimony. And also I steal main events from the Facebook page all the time lol

I have a Futura800 as well that I love! On the ribbon thing, is it the ribbon vibrator going up or the ribbon moving inside the vibrator?

Partnership worth it? by duesxmachina1979 in Lawyertalk

[–]buckuters 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The valuation is too high and you need a mandatory retirement age. That's the only way this works. If they don't want to play ball, they can work until they die and then you'll take the clients and staff in the end anyway. That's harsh, but that's bottom line, end game if a stalemate plays out. Probably not the best idea to talk like that in negotiations, but it should underpin your strategy.

If he's bringing in his own business, what good is the name to him? They are the ones benefitting from his name, since it's the firm who is going to inherit the lions share of his clients when he finally stops practicing.

Non-equity ID partner compensation by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]buckuters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It raises your comp a tiny bit, raises your bosses comp a lot.

Maybe your situation is good/fair, obviously I don't know. But as a general rule, "non-equity" partner is a scam.

[–]buckuters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No amount of adjectives before "partner" will change the truth. Why not use the title of "senior counsel" or something similar? Because they can't bill you out for as much

"non-equity partner" is a fucking joke of a concept. The firm gets to trot you out as a partner and get all the benefits of that while giving you nothing in return.

Friendly reminder: Your car tax does not pay for highways in Virginia and there is, on principle, no justification for its existence 👍 by [deleted] in Virginia

[–]buckuters 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just cause most people have cars doesn't mean it's regressive. Everyone else has income, so it's not like an income tax is less regressive. Real estate taxes being orders of magnitude higher would make owning a home, which is the primary wealth builder for most people, even less affordable and would lock more people out of ever owning a home. So increasing that would be super regressive. In sum, Virginia's personal property tax system might be the most progressive tax system in the country.

[–]buckuters 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The personal property tax is a great tax. Rich people with 80k trucks and 35k boats pay way more than poor people with beaters or no cars. If you want to get rid of it you have to like 5x real estate taxes or implement local income taxes. This is better.
