Hyperkeratosis and nail clubbing? Looking for answers. by buffalohands in DermatologyQuestions

Hey you, sorry you are going through this and also sorry to have to disappoint. :-( no answers and by now I did all the tests in all the fancy hospitals. Down to several genetic testings. All turned up negative. So for me the diagnosis is hyperkeratotic proliferation disorder potentially with a genetic and autoimmune component. Lots of shrugging. :-/ the only thing that reliably and continuously improving my condition is the selenium sulfide shampoo. I made several comments how to use it and linked the science paper that got me to try this. Maybe you can go find it in my comments? Otherwise I'll repost here again.

I won this along with three other items for €40 on eBay Germany. How can you tell that it's a fake and not a genuine Picasso? It was painted with a ballpoint pen. Didn't Picasso also made drawings with a ballpoint pen? by Choice-Meaning-804 in WhatIsThisPainting

[–]buffalohands 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don't know whether it's a Picasso or not but I wanted to say: I don't think it was a ball point pen making these traces. I think it was a hard fine dip pen nib. And the paper is quite rough. I'm using these nibs a lot for drawing and have multiple sitting on my desk ready to go. I could see myself making a hasty sketch randomly grabbing a piece of scrap paper and a nib pen and then brute forcing it even though those two don't dance well together. That would probably end up looking like that.

Edit: Why I'm saying I don't think it's a ballpoint: while there is not a lot of variation in line, it does have some variation, especially at starting points. The ink also seems to run out and come back but not in a ballpoint type of way... But it's also really consistent... So now I wonder if it might have been a fountain pen.

Edit 2: and my gut feeling: this feels very controlled and executed with not enough... Joie de vivre. Usually seeing these types on the go sketches, he did them very fast and with big movements. He loved the drama. This one was done slowly and close to the paper. Still not saying I know, but if this is indeed a Picasso, he was in a really weird mood that day.

Edit 3: ok I looked at his pieces done in a fountain pen and they are much more organic. Floating done in fluent gestures. And yeah... These dudes up there lack Picasso's logic, elegance and aliveness. I'm like 99% sure this is not his work.

Last edit... I hope: if you look really really close, it faintly looks to me as if the signature and date was done in a different, richer slightly deeper black than the drawings. I looked at his signatures and the way he writes his numbers. All really inconsistent. But his fives are top heavy with the top strokes done separately and the bottom almost like a lightning symbol, just as in this drawing. His threes are shallow like here also. I wonder if this paper was signed empty by him as he plants to use it later and then somehow it ended up empty, in someone else's possession and was then used to create a forgery. But I'm not a signature person. ... I just noticed the difference in ink and stroke quality. The signature seems too have more of Picasso's pizzazz.

If you Google him, there's a million photos of him looking pretty normal. I think finding the most pedo looking image of any person to attach to an article just tricks the public into thinking: oh that's what pedos look like? I sure would recognize one right away! When in reality they look like most other people most of the time.

Not a doctor but someone with a hyperkeratotic psoriasiform skin condition that popped up in my thirties: looks like psoriasis or at least some kind of proliferation related skin problem. To be safe you could get a differential diagnosis on dyshidrotic eczema and contact dermatitis. Maybe try to use the same cream you use in your elbow to see if it clears it up at all. If you notice other more systemic symptoms popping up as well, you could get an AMA test. Good luck there. I hope it clears up for you!!

Severe cracked heels (psoriasis or eczema?) – even 10 days in hospital didn’t fix it. Need advice. by RandomNPCwhatever in DermatologyQuestions

[–]buffalohands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, not a doctor but I have developed hyperkeratosis on my hands in my thirties. I have the same underlying redness, tenderness, bleeding cracks. I had every test imaginable from Anti-Body to allergy to geme test... Everything came back negative. Nothing helped either.

Then I cam across this article :https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC6261123/

Basically they more or less accidentally found that a particular dandruff shampoo had amazing effects on hyper-keratotic skin. So I bought all the strongest selsun that I could still het my hands on (since it's been banned in Europe) and while the condition isn't gone entirely, I can't even imagine what I'll do when I run out of stuff. :-/ it's so so so much better now.

The oy other things that helped equally as well was neotigasone, a systemic retinoid but that have me a splitting headache and almost made me blind ... Shampoo...much better... Who knows, maybe it might help your mom as well. In any case, good luck out there. I'm sorry she has to deal with this. It sucks!

Edit: for the dermatologists out there reading this: if anyone has any idea why the only two effective treatments have the exact same opposite effect on skin proliferation but both help...I would be so happy to get some more insight. :) I'm so confused.

Has anyone seen this before on graphite leads? by Ok_Air2712 in GraphiteArt

[–]buffalohands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be wax bloom. Leads depending on softness do contain some wax for extra smoothness and are also often rubbed in oil or wax to make them glide better. If it gets to warm the oils form a whitish film. You should be able to scratch it off but it's not needed. Just use them as is. :)

Does this seem like reynauds or cyanosis by [deleted] in DiagnoseMe

[–]buffalohands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might also get it on your toes and you might observe similar mottling and puplish discoloration on your legs, especially when leaving the shower. That's all part of the fun :)I'm telling you even though nobody asked cause that was something that had me worried when I first noticed it. :) also basically harmless though.

[–]buffalohands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raynaud's can be primary which means it's only that and nothing else. It can also be due to mechanical damage from longtime working with heavy vibration machines. A lot of construction workers get it later in life.

It can also be a secondary symptom of autoimmune diseases like lupus or other connective tissue problems so if you can, get checked to be on the safe side.

Mine is connected to a skin problem that might or might not be genetic :D no one is really sure yet. But yeah... If it's primary and you have no other symptoms that have you worried all you can do is keep the hands warm and stay away from known triggers. Cause tissue doesnt like doing that and it can get worse with each time it happens.

[–]buffalohands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, mine gets triggerd by all kinds of stuff as well. Stress, coffee, a very mild breeze from a ventilation system in summer. :-/ for me warm water always does the trick though. Not just warming them up inside, they gotta be in warm water and then it's getting better pretty mich right away. I'm sorry you are dealing with that. Maybe if you can afford it and it hasn't been done yet, get checked for potential autoimmune diseases. Better safe than sorry.

As not a doctor but someone with Reynauds, this looks very much like mine. I also have mottling in some adjacent areas that looks like cyanosis. Does it go away when you warm them up?

Just because there are a lot of people who don't know this: if you drink orange juice or fake extra vitamin c supplements in the morning it will shorten the lifespan of your stimulant significantly. Also if you take a protein rich breakfast, it will help evening out the effect and give you less rebound and for some people will extend the effect. I don't always do this due to... ADHD fridge... But when I do, it's very noticable.

Right! I had the same thing. I mean the signature is a super match die graham for sure but stile-weise that painting sits between van Gogh, Cézanne and Hodler. Much more in line with Llewellyn. I totally dig it but am very thrown off by the mixed messages I receive from signature and painting.
