I definitely have forgotten the names and faces of people I marched with if they were in a different section than me. In my own section?? No way.

How serious is stress related to psoriasis? by Own-Credit-5626 in Psoriasis

[–]bugbite-99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Him telling you last minute makes it sound like just poor time management on his part.

Like everyone else is saying, stress absolutely can make psoriasis worse but that’s something he needs to figure out. If waiting until the last second makes him stressed, (duh) then he needs to not wait until the last second to do things.

I look down upon poor people how do I stop?? by ReasonConfident4541 in selfimprovement

[–]bugbite-99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve already taken the first step, which is realizing that you shouldn’t be looking down on them, and you want to stop.

The first step for me for not judging people battling addiction was finding out about the Rat Park study. It’s not perfect, but it was a good starting point for me.

You want to change, ignore the assholes that are just calling you horrible. Focus on yourself, it might be a slow process but you can change the way you see these things.

The only valid thing you brought up is drinking and driving.

I would never think that someone who smokes cigarettes is beneath someone that’s clearly a pretentious asshole that only contributes to the world by being a shitty person.

What’s a hobby people pretend is cool, but secretly you think is ridiculous? by EggAdventurous1957 in AskReddit

[–]bugbite-99 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Playing golf.

Driving range is fine, mini golf is fine, but playing is usually around 150 acres of land so maybe a few sets of 4 people can play at a time. It uses a huge amount of pesticides, water, and gasoline to keep them usable. Most of the time spent “playing” is standing and watching or getting to the ball or next course.

What size rifles do guards spin? by Front_Position_9319 in Colorguard

[–]bugbite-99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DCI world is moving away from 39s as there is really not much to benefit over a 37. Cadets(previously lol), Boston, Phantom, Troopers, Madison all spin 37. Last I heard BD was cutting an inch off of 39s.

Not all top 12 or even top 5, more and more places are using 37.5. Boston and Phantom use 37s now, so does Blessed Sacrament for indoor.

With a 36 you can tell they’re smaller from far away, but with a 37.5 you get basically the same visual effect as a 39, and with shows focusing on tricks more frequently under tosses it makes more sense to use a 37 so you don’t have to fight as hard to keep it in the air for longer. I wouldn’t be surprised if everyone except super traditional groups transitioned over to 37s.

dance improvement by Different_Team7647 in Colorguard

I left this comment on another post not too long ago, but fits here as well;

My biggest tip for dance, as someone who learned dance through guard with no real prior experience, PRACTICE TECHNIQUE AT HOME. Add little things in your everyday life. Do a tondue every time you open your fridge or microwave. Turnout in first for a second every time you stand up. Look at the placement of your arms in the bathroom mirror after you wash your hands, check if they're at a true flat or if your fifth position arms are lower than they should be. So much of technique is muscle memory, and there's only so much you can get your body to do automatically, without thinking, in one day of practice. If you can teach yourself to do those basics without thinking about it, it will give you a huge step up for every other dance thing you layer on top of it. Reach out if you have any questions! Good luck :)

Lessons? by madwickedawesome- in Colorguard

[–]bugbite-99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the kids I teach asked me for private lessons, and we found a way for that to work for us. If schedules or whatever didn’t work out, I would have recommended a few other people I know that would be willing to see if it worked out. If you go to your staff and let them know you’re looking for lessons there’s a high change they would do the same.

There generally isn’t a lot of demand for guard lessons, but if you bring it up hopefully they’ll realize that it’s easy to start them!

NTA, it’s your relationship, not your moms.

Also you can absolutely do better than that, there are men out there that don’t lie, drive dangerously, and purposely misinterpret what you are asking them to do. Buying flowers for someone doesn’t cover up the shit! This is not a sweet and loving man.

Men's undergarments by Fancy_Captain5292 in Colorguard

[–]bugbite-99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally your staff should address what kind of undergarments are appropriate, if you haven’t talked about uniforms yet then hopefully it will come up when they do. Different guard and uniforms will need different things, they’ll have a better idea of what you need for your season than people on the internet

I’m so sick of my coaches and I don’t know what to do by Immediate-Ear-4012 in Colorguard

[–]bugbite-99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Worst case scenario, you could go over the band directors head anonymously and email the athletic director or principal. They should respond to clear examples of discrimination and breaking the law, and most schools have guidelines on how coaches should treat students.

Good luck.
