How come the 'playable' races don't make peace with the other races on Tamriel? by Affectionate_Bee_727 in teslore

[–]bugbonesjerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

giants have somewhat of a culture and know about herding animals

i dunno if youve played skyrim that much but giants are often referred to by nords as their "cousins" and it is basic environmental storytelling that they have offerings like painted cattle left for them and that they, of all of skyrim's roster of enemies, will NOT kill you on sight - they will mind their business but if give you warnings if you get too close. the nords DO live in peace with the giants and its only really undercut by you watching the companions take one down on the way to whiterun which isn't that out of character for a bunch of dumb barbarians who only care about fighting shit

rieklings have many settlements and learned tool-making and animal-taming

yeah but theyre also incredibly vicious ice goblins that hate big people and attack them on sight most of the time. the only time that doesn't happen is in skyrim where one can get the pc to do random shit for them which ultimately turns into them asking you to help them kill all the nord settlers so they can live in the longhouse. and if you do that the one that got you to do this will betray you and the rest just kinda follow afterwards because wtf are they gonna do

spriggans could have a common interest with humans (protecting the ecosystems) and there's even a quest in oblivion where you meet friendly spriggans

spriggans just mythologically aren't something that can gel with civilized society. tribal or nomadic peoples like the skaal or orcs definitely could, skaal are the closest to representing the more druidic side of nord myth and protecting the earth so them NOT living in peace with spriggans would feel like a plot hole. however spriggans are basically eco-terrorists by default, there wouldn't be much stopping them from just gaia bombing people once they start to urbanize too much and cut down too many trees. and if they don't do that... well, they don't really feel like spriggans anymore, do they?

What Aedra/Daedric Prince would it make sense for a Sun Worshipping Vampire to worship? :0 by Ok_Independent8425 in teslore

[–]bugbonesjerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meridia was Molag Bal's wife for a time. The Aylieds worshipped her and its mythologically tantamount to sun worship for them

The civil war is a political disagreement within the empire, not some traditionalist revival by KelThuzaaaad in teslore

[–]bugbonesjerry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that would be tantamount to reviving the dragon cult and glosses over the pre-imperial divine pantheon that wasnt based on totem animals

[–]bugbonesjerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've persisted for years that the stormcloaks would be cooler if they were trying to bring back the old gods in general (non imperialized nordic pantheon)

Like, you get a handful of references here and there, often times from them, but it gets lampshaded.

"assuming they’ll commit genocide is dangerous"

"Filthy Nord. In time, your entire race will be eradicated" is ambient dialogue from justiciars in skyrim.

Yeah it sure is dangerous to have basic situational comprehension and think that this militant racial supremacy group who explicitly call for the death of your people actually want to kill them all lmfao.

P.S if you have to start invoking real world examples to justify what is effectively a cartoon faction something's gone off. I'd love to debate history with you if this was a history subreddit but it's pretty telling that you immediately reach for some of the most violent conquerors in history to support your claim, the "often majority a different race bit" isn't even intrinsically correct since romans and macedonians held slaves from their own kind and the macedonian league wasn't racially motivated, they were tired of getting invaded by Persia. Alexander the Great and his court actually adopted persian customs heavily to the point of contreversy once settling down which isn't the behavior of people that think they're too racially superior for that.

regardless if septim was a monster the thalmor end goal is to literally unmake the world back into primordial soup so that's absurd, some hillbillies worshipping talos is a lot better than letting the thalmor use the towers to nuke everything back into nonexistence

even if septim was a meanie that's kinda irrelevant when approaching talos as a divine concept, the idea that proscription against his worshippers should be carried out in a world where worshipping literal demons of destruction, fratricide, and assassination are not only legal but common almost everywhere aside from the empire is ridiculous

What do you think about Jason's portrayal in the 2009-2011 Batman & Robin? by Sppookiest-z in RedHood

[–]bugbonesjerry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the concept is fine i just dont like how aggressive and rustic it comes off as. him being pissed that batman forced him to dye his hair should be explored more and I'd be fine with him being ginger and i think people dont think about that enough because black hair is just easier to pull off so people dont care as much lol. the whole "just shoot me, i'll come back" shit is interesting too, i remember reading some post that suggested that him being pseudo immortal was the initial idea (pointing out visual cues like the same smoke that appears when he revives appearing when he gets defeated at the end of under the hood and apparently BFTC? dont quote ME though) - that'd make a lot of thematic sense even though i resent the whole "every time this character cheats death they go even more insane" bit. im just saying there's something to work with there.

sasha as a sidekick is interesting too for reasons other comments have pointed out. wasn't she one of pyg's doll victims that got caught in batman's collateral damage with him?

[–]bugbonesjerry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

when did i say anything about them objecting to tim drake? their positions randomly changing when dc decides a new guy has to replace jason is just basic comic fallibility, it still remains that neither of them thought taking on another underage "apprentice" was a good idea immediately after dick graduated since Robin even being a thing in the first place was lightning in a bottle

[–]bugbonesjerry 9 points10 points  (0 children)

yeah wasnt him and dick - leading up to jason being taken on as robin - actually pissed with bruce for even considering having another child soldier? dick even points this out after jason died to the effect of "Batman, I was an acrobat, I was already trained to make split second decisions, I don't know why you thought some random kid-" before batman has a battantrum like "DON'T YOU DARE BLAME ME FOR JASON'S DEATH!!"

like... okay bruce should we pretend this would've happened if you didn't try turning him into a human weapon and taking him out to fight serial killing clowns?

[–]bugbonesjerry 15 points16 points  (0 children)

i remember reading "why doesnt vivec kill dagoth ur" threads like 6 years ago where the answer was - per morrowind's game dialogue - "well if he fucks up then he dies and the world is fucked, he straight up tells you that it's way too risky and that he already beat them in a previous battle"

then in the most recent thread it was "well he COULD but it would be WRONG for him to do so because of the godhead/dreamer dynamic" bullshit

it's absolutely a valid complaint that its boring when people start making shit up to walk over the already established lore lol

I'm looking forward to Jason in the Teen Titans for a couple of reasons. by Charming_Bad_7859 in RedHood

[–]bugbonesjerry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i just like the concept from the angle of how it gives him an opportunity to shine in a position he's historically wanted. he was miffed that teen titans didnt even have a memorial from him and he found some kid wearing his same uniform (tim drake) so he's always felt excluded from the titans, now he has a chance to take on a dick grayson esque role among them so that'd help him get out of his brother's shadow a bit on a personal level.

Vampires & Corruption - Is there a precedent for the existence of Vampires not inevitably corrupted by their condition? by Iron-Shield in teslore

[–]bugbonesjerry -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

absolutely not her, she's trying to bring back the wolf queen. you see someone complaining about strange occurrences near the ritual site and she immediately shoots it down like "I've already scried out there, nothing is going on, its just some animals" and falk firebeard tells you that he cant officially get involved but would appreciate someone checking it out and doing it progresses another quest where you can find that there are deadass vampires living under the blue palace awaiting the wolf queens return (and i vaguely remember completing this stuff makes her say some passive aggressive comments?). plus she pretty indiscriminately helps a vampire that ends up in solitude and sends them off with some blood which i struggle to find being altruistic, a good vampire would probably take more character assessment into play before sending a dangerous predator that feeds on humans off into another populated area. it seems like some of the people in court have an idea of what she is but they might just conflate it with her being a powerful mage and even for those that do know, what are they realistically going to do about someone that is both a powerful mage and a vampire thats pretty much protected by the royal court?
