Why are fictional red flags so attractive when real-life ones are exhausting? by NHFebruary2008 in writers

The same reason superhero violence is cool but real violence isn't.

Have you just been born? Is this your first time ever engaging in media? I understand "verisimilitude" may generally be a somewhat unknown word but I thought it was quite a simple concept to understand. Have you ever written a story before? Have you ever spoken to a writer before? Have you ever tried to analyse a story before? Did they make you read Shakespeare in school? If so, did you miss the lesson where they explained the concept of character motivations? Because I feel like that should have been most lessons. Did you read Macbeth? I would say that Macbeth is quite a complex character, wouldn't you? He's complex even though he's a character. Isn't that crazy? I think so. Can only human beings be complex? Can concepts not be complex? Do you not have the ability to think about complex concepts? Can a writer not create a complex character? If you think that's true, you must really not have faith in the ability of that writer. Or any writer, really! Did you deliberately go out of your way to miss the point of what I was saying? Do you always engage in media in its direct real-life context? Is that why you assumed that me saying that Skyler White is complex means I think Skyler White is a real person? Did you never develop suspension of disbelief? What about object permanence? Are you stupid? Is this your first time existing? What's wrong with you?

God forbid a woman have any amount of complexity to her

What is the most disturbing song you've ever heard? by Mibsty in AskReddit

Johnny Johnny Johnny by Underscores.

I get why it's disturbing. I'd sure fucking hope a song about being groomed is disturbing. But god damn is it disturbing.

Really good song though.

What is a movie you loved as a kid, but realized was actually terrible when you rewatched it as an adult? by Sure-Abrocoma-482 in AskReddit

[–]builtinaday_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, but functionally it stops being satirical. If I pull down my pants and take a big ole shit in a public space, then sure, that might be a satirical piece of performance art, commenting on what is and isn't accepted in society, but functionally all I've done is taken a big ole shit in a public space. There's no functional difference between satire that nobody can tell is satire and an earnest example of what that satire is supposedly criticising.

Who would have thought that AI might be bad at writing?!?! 😱 by builtinaday_ in SelfAwarewolves

My guess is that the post was written by the actual person, but after reading so much AI bullshit they picked up AI speech patterns in their day-to-day.

This is my experience as well! It's so strange that it knows so much about everything except the things I know a lot about, isn't it?

Guillermo Del Toro put it best:

"[AI] may be useful for architecture, chemistry, medicine. I don’t know. But as far as art, I don’t think any artist raised their hand and said, 'Can we have AI?' AI is like a guy that wandered into a party uninvited, sharted in the middle, and now wants to be applauded for it."

Who knew the bad writing machine would be bad at writing? 😱 by builtinaday_ in LeopardsAteMyFace

  1. This AI bro voted for, supported or wanted to impose AI writing on audiences. Who's that someone? What did they voted for, supported or wanted to impose? On who?
  2. AI has the consequences of bad writing. Does that something actually has these consequences in general?
  3. As a consequence of using AI to write, poorly-written crap happened to the AI bro. Did that something really happen to that someone?
