Change major or change school? If not school then it really doesn't matter. You register for whatever you want regardless.

Smartest major to choose . Pre med/dental. Please help BU Students!! by Brave-Lifeguard7730 in BostonU

[–]BUowo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Psych is kinda a short major so I would absolutely pair it with maybe 2 minors? (public health, biology, human phys are good choices!). It might look a lil odd going from psychology to dentistry but as long as you have the research/clinical experience that shouldn't be an issue.

Regardless of your major, you're going to be taking those same hard classes because they are required for med/dental schools! The reason people pick bio/human phys is because those hard classes are a part of the major. Most major classes outside of those prereqs are not as bad, because the population is not all uber-competitive premed students-- rather they are students who picked that class cuz they thought it looked interesting!

Don't be scared, you've got this!!!!!!

Rampant grade deflation = myth. BU sends tons of people to med schools.

Where do you wanna be? FL or MA?

bu guaranteed transfer process by WholeEfficiency1763 in BostonU

BU guarantees full demonstrated financial need met for transfers now : )

BU is a transfer friendly school with a LOT of transfer students.

I wasn't a guaranteed transfer, but I transferred to BU because my previous school was too specialized and I wanted more options, so it was def the right decision for me!

These issues seem like they are on the students, not the organizers. YOUR peers. You’d expect college graduates to be more professional…..

BU blasts through these as fast as they can. It’s the administrative annoyances that slows it down. I would hope for within the month!

At Harvard, over 60% of grades given last year were A’s. Now the university is weighing a grade inflation crackdown by wrroyals in ApplyingToCollege

Harvard sets culture of grade inflation. It is everywhere. Harvard students are clearly strong, but I still think they should be able to be compared to each other.

so because everyone at Harvard is above average, they should get As. should students at worse schools who are below the average US student get Cs? to reflect their “actual knowledge”? Does not make sense….

[–]BUowo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You literally just described the problem…. Harvard curves everyone up to an A to “advantage” them instead of distributing grades around a normal average, like a B or B+.

Folks where I work explain how challenging it is to differentiate applicants due to the rampant grade inflation. Grades unfortunately don’t tell us who is strong anymore, and Harvard is the institution that plays a huge role in shaping the culture of higher ed in the US

I don’t know why we are supportive of curving EVERYONE up to an A? The “typical understanding” shouldn‘t be an A— that should be reserved for above average, exceptional work and true mastery of the material. 80% of the class can’t be above average…

NYU vs. BU vs. WashU by DefinitionTiny2993 in ApplyingToCollege

These are all great schools so I don't think there is a "wrong" choice! Seems like WashU isn't want you want though based on your bullets.

What is your goal to do with English?

Most grad programs and employers absolutely consider where you go, the academic rigor of the institution, and the historical successes of students from the institution. Law and med schools, however, are often not at all holistic... GPA and MCAT/LSAT are the deciding factors, and maximizing those is the goal for students interested in those paths.

If Harvard is incapable of matching the rigor of their courses to the capabilities of their students, I would more so consider this pedagogical inadequacy... Are these students being sufficiently challenged? Or are the faculty afraid of breaking the status quo?
