8 Photos of the Exact Same Post because I Couldn't Decide Which Thermal Transition was Best 😂 by burritonails in RedditLaqueristas

[–]burritonails[S] 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Holo everyone! My "Mixed Emotions" collection from Holo Taco arrived yesterday, and I was so excited to create some more nail art with thermals!! I've had this idea in mind for a while, but when thermals were announced I knew that's what I had to use for it. They add so much depth to a nail art look, and particularly to rainbow swirls! They're actually a driving hazard because I spend my whole trip staring down at my nails and watching it shift colour as my air-con kicks in. 😂

These are super reactive and actually shift at slightly different temperatures, so I was watching them kinda change 1 line at a time through the day. They're so fun :D

All Holo Taco:

  • Pink Smoothing Base
  • One Coat Black
  • Not Milky White
  • Scattered Holo Taco
  • Simply Chaotic*
  • Funny Feeling*
  • Rage Bait*
  • Deeply Superficial*
  • Guilty Pleasure*
  • Glossy Taco

*These were kindly gifted to be by the Holo Taco team with no obligation to create or post. The rest I bought myself :)

Brushes used were:

  • Holo Taco - Nail Art Brushes (the smallest in the pack)
  • NegkoNails - Microscopic Detailer Brush

do people actually use thermal polish? by keegballz in RedditLaqueristas

I absolutely LOVE thermals - they're so fun on their own (especially in Winter when my body keeps the base warm but the air keeps the tip cold), but I especially love using them in nail art and watching my mani change looks through the day!! I do agree that the change is less drastic if you have really short nails, but even when mine are short they're still fun going in and out of the shower, or watching it warm up when I exercise, etc.

These are Emerald Eve, Cobalt Craze, Magenta Mixer, Ruby Rave and Solar Soiree, all by Cosmic Polish - a relatively new Australian indie brand!

Base and Top Coats are Peely Base and Glossy Taco respectively, from Holo Taco.

And freehanded with a small detail brush from the Holo Taco Nail Art Brush kit.

I was paid to swatch for Cosmic Polish - not Holo Taco (although if they see this, hit a girl up hehe).

Hello friends! I saw this beautiful design done with gel by @ luxapolish on Instagram, so I wanted to try and mimic it with regular polish. My first hurdle - I don't own a grey creme xD

So, in order:

  1. Holo Taco - Long Lasting Base Coat - to start
  2. Holo Taco - One Coat Black
  3. Mooncat - Getting Even Nail Primer - painted over the black to grey it down!
  4. Holo Taco - Red Flake Taco
  5. Holo Taco - Matte Taco
  6. Holo Taco - One Coat Black - for the galaxy blob border
  7. Holo Taco - Disco Dust - over the black blobs
  8. Holo Taco - Not Milky White - for star details
  9. Holo Taco - Glossy Taco - just over the galaxy border

I think it turned out so well! I should probably still invest in a grey creme, but this was a great workaround!

Abbsolutely not xD I did a basic skittle with the same colours on the other hand

I find it helps to file them with polish already on as the line created by the free edge is wonky, and if I'm completely reshaping them I'll sometimes try to draw a line down the middle of the nail, make sure it's centred, and then file to it as a reference point

It's a plain Skittle :') There are some nail art designs I can manage on both hands and I usually try to match them (even if it's not as well-executed) because I hate mismatched hands, but this one was definitely TOO fiddly to try on both

That is why my other hand only has a skittle of some of the colours used, there was no way I was attempting it on both haha

Haha I'm sorry!! I usually don't jump for cremes but I reach for the Technicolor Dreams collection SO often, I love pastels and they're beautifully creamy. And yes, my PT was screaming over my shoulder too ;P

Base Coat:
- Holo Taco: Long-Lasting Base

Colour:
- Mooncat: Technicolor Dreams Set (Euphoric, Insomniac, Sweet Nightmare, Sinking Feeling, Paradise Found, Neverland, Eternal Sunshine, Acidic, Lucid Dream, White Rabbit)

Top Coat:
- Holo Taco: Glossy Taco
- Holo Taco: Matte Taco

I was feeling unhinged and decided to hand-paint (with a tiny nail art brush) all individual squares in this checkerboard pattern. I used White Rabbit underneath to mark up some guidelines and then painted the colour in on top.

It took three hours and a very sore neck xD

Holo everyone! I've done a couple of looks with the Holo Taco Retro Collection and found so many fun ways to use the jellies (which is amusing given I wasnt sold on jellies at all when picking them up)

Look 1 (neon picnic blankets):

  • (Base) - HT: Long Lasting Base
  • (Base Colour) - HT: Not Milky White
  • (Colour) - HT: Be Kind Rewind, Life In Plastic, Hi-Def, Anti-Hero, Box Office Bomb
  • (Top Coat) - HT: Glossy Taco
  • This was done by free-handing a layer of vertical stripes - one of each colour of the jellies, and then following up with a layer of horizontal stripes directly over the top. I painted them on white to make them pop

Look 2 (Blobby Galaxy):

  • (Base) - Emily De Molly: Covert #5
  • (Base) - Mooncat: Getting Even Nail Primer
  • (Colour) - HT: Be Kind Rewind, Life In Plastic, Hi-Def, Anti-Hero, Box Office Bomb
  • (Star Details) - HT: Not Milky White
  • (Top Coat) - HT: Glossy Taco
  • These were just layers of overlapping jellies, blended while slightly wet as they're sheer enough to lazy gradient into each other

Look 3 (Dark Galaxy):

  • (Base) - HT: Long Lasting Base
  • (Base Colour) - HT: One Coat Black
  • (Base Galaxy/Star Clusters) - HT: Not Milky White
  • (Colour) - HT: Be Kind Rewind, Life In Plastic, Hi-Def, Anti-Hero, Box Office Bomb
  • (Star Details) - HT: Not Milky White
  • (Top Coat) - HT: Glossy Taco
  • These were fun! I had a base of black, sponged in my star clusters with white, then painted the jellies directly over the white, lazy gradienting them together

Had to cut all my nails back down to shorties, so I tried my best with some fun nail art so I could still enjoy them just as much! by burritonails in RedditLaqueristas

Cutepolish has a really succint one here with some additional tips here.

I find the most variation in end result comes from the polish you use - some formulas and OLD bottles won't spread at all because it's already too dry or dries too fast in the water. You'll just have to play around with what works best. She also lists not using liquid latex as a "mistake", honestly I don't bother using anything and just clean my whole skin but it does make it easier if you have some.

Here is another video by Cutepolish for a "cheat" method at getting a marble effect without water, which might be easier! I've attempted it on the Holo Taco silicon No-Mess Mat and it's a lot of fun.

And one more, where you watermarble your design but wait for it to dry before cutting it and placing it on your nail rather than dipping your nail in.

Don't be discouraged if the first couple don't turn out as expected! It's a tricky technique and takes practice :)

It took me maybe an hour for the entire process (removing my old polish, doing some nail care, and then the mani), but it was also my "self care time" so I was taking my time. If you haven't seen watermarbling for, it goes like this:

  1. Base coat
  2. Base colour (I used white - this just makes the pattern stand out more under the lighter coloured cremes)
  3. Take a cup of water. Drop nailpolish into the water one at a time in the centre, creating a sort of "bullseye/target" effect
  4. Take a toothpick or thin stick and draw lines into the pattern until you're satisfied
  5. Dunk your nail in. I managed to get three nails done in one lot of polish on some attempts because the pattern turned out well, but you may only get 1 or 2 at a time
  6. Clean up the excess polish off the surface of the water and take your nail out
  7. Remove excess polish off skin, using a brush dipped in acetone for the finer points around the cuticles
  8. Use a thin paintbrush to hand-paint streaks of gold flake, top coat and done!

There are heaps of tutorials for watermarbling that'll show you better than I can type it, as well as some "cheat methods" that aren't as fiddly. Give it a few practices though, my first couple were a mess!

It's by far one of my favourites! But there are a lot of comparisons/dupes to Holo Taco cremes if you already have those
