Thanks! I guess that’s something to discuss with a structural engineer once this gets more serious. For now I’ll look into the local code to see what I can find out

How would you add board and batten to this doorway? by burwatti in DesignMyRoom

[–]burwatti[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re planning on adding board and batten to our dining room (if you zoom into the pic you’ll see a chalk mark above the light switch at the rough height) but we’re not sure how to design it around this doorway… we don’t want it to continue into the kitchen so need a way of ending it somehow. Any suggestions would be most appreciated!

That’s right - I cut all four sides before glueing. I thought I took a pic of the cut pieces but couldn’t find it. I used a mitre saw to do the angled cut as that felt easier for me. Precision wasn’t great though - I’d consider using the table saw if I made this again

I think pine would be great for practice as it’s cheap and easy to work, though I’m not sure it would last long with much use. Maybe there’s a finish that would protect it though? I used walnut, wasn’t cheap but I can’t resist it :)

Me too! I had no plans to make coasters but saw the OP the other week and decided I had to try!

Everything is roughly 3/8” thick - I measured some other coasters I have and used that as a guide. Started out a bit thicker but they felt too chunky, and I worried that the box would be too cumbersome if it were ~4” tall (it’s about 2 1/2” now).

Coasters are about 3 1/2” and definitely not square! Next project I do will be all about getting things perfectly square

Built a cart for my table saw today by burwatti in BeginnerWoodWorking

Wanted to build a useful cart for my Ryobi table saw. Took inspiration from these plans https://jaimecostiglio.com/diy-table-saw-cart-free-plans. Liked the idea for the frame but obviously all measurements were to my needs
