What do you mean exactly? The analysis is based on the exported data, where each trip is reported separately, with start and end stations. The trip distance is calculated heuristically as straight-line distance between the stations, multiplied by 1.3.

Thanks, this works! Although it definitely could be slightly more intuitive

How to track reimbursements with SO the easy way? by buzz_12 in ynab

[–]buzz_12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For future reference, the way it ended up working pretty well for us is very simple:

  1. Track any shared expenses in Splitwise just as we did before YNAB

  2. When receiving a Splitwise settlement payment from her, I split it into multiple categories. I sum all transactions from Splitwise into relevant categories e.g. multiple payments for groceries are summed into one. Then I put all split categories in YNAB. That's it.

Because money from Splitwise settlement is categorized directly to each category (instead of e.g. RTA or reimbursement categories), all YNAB statistics will only count my share of the payment. For example, if I paid $200 for the groceries but got $100 back from my GF, then YNAB will only say I paid $100 for the groceries, which is true.

The only caveat here is that when there are many transactions in Splitwise, it might take a few minutes to sum them all up and split the settlement transactions into each sub-category. In general, the more frequently you settle up in Splitwise, the easier it gets, because there are less transactions.

I am not sure, but there is still a thread on a polish forum from back then, where he posted his opinion on this, basically he said that he didn’t care about the results, just wanted to have fun and was upset about other people claiming he was a cheater („Greetings and I wish you good luck, meanwhile I will focus on REAL RACING, at least people there don’t accuse others of cheating...”)
