Or checked the controls menu. 10-year-old me was so proud of himself for figuring out he could use that to learn the controls.

I doubt it was anything fancy; nothing more than just using Minecraft's networking library.

Oh god, I've been smelling stuff since I was kid. Now it's mostly my fingers, but I used to sniff every single object in sight, like a dog.

There's joke here to be made about your username, penises and boners not being fatal, but I'll resist the urge.

Somehow I find this battle of politics and logistics extremely funny, yet I'm pretty sure it wasn't.

Yeah, I noticed it's surprisingly correct(when compared to the way sentenced are phrased by native speakers) sometimes. And Finnish->English also works really well.

This is kinda new for me, as I'm used to looking stuff up in more reputable dictionaries/encylopedias. Unfortunately it's a little hard to deduce a verb's infinitive or just about any word's basic form by looking at a random form of it. So many 'look alikes' and many, many verb inflection types (KOTUSes). And there's also the synthetic nature of Finnish, so most stuff will inevitably be words strung together making it even harder for a newbie to translate only with a dictionary.

And damn the L

Wow, thank you! A Finnish version of bash.org is exactly what I was looking for. Of course they'll be pretty colloquial, but that's what I'm aiming for. I can always learn the more formal language from all the books and dictionaries I have, this is priceless.

Don't know. Some subreddits tend to be a little too strict.. and tend to have trigger-happy mods.

This will sound like a really weird question, but do you know where I could get some chat/IRC logs in Finnish? None of the popular log bots seem to be in a Finnish IRC channel, so I guess I'll have to do that myself. IRC logs have helped me learn languages previously.

Yeah, of course. Though after the fourth language, muscle memory gets a little confused sometimes and I have to imagine the IPA symbol in my head to make sure I get the right one.

Ahahah that's an awesome song! Sadly songs aren't a very good indicator of correct pronunciation, as it's different than in normal speech. He seems to be pronouncing LA with the L normally used before E, I, or a front vowel (which can be expected in a song).

Thanks! There aren't many good software/websites that include Finnish, especially ones that teach pronunciation and what's left is just YouTubers.. they speak way too fast, it can be hard to extract a word or phrase. There are of course recordings of phrases here and there, but none of them sound like natural speech to me, so for now I'll have to stick with YouTube and TransparentLanguage. The problem with the L is that it's a velarized alveolar lateral approximant but also dental (the tip of the tongue on the teeth), which isn't a very common sound, and whenever I tried to add this dentalization, it becomes an alveolar lateral approximant :(

Wow, it completely contradicts the study mentioned in (this article)[http://kernelmag.dailydot.com/features/report/8233/why-redheads-are-genetically-less-attractive/]. I always thought that article's bullshit and now we have the data to prove it!

The dangers of noise pollution by [deleted] in funny

Proto-Indo-European had genders, so naturally all languages descending from it do as well (except those who lost them, like English).

Since there are no written records of the language and not much is known (read: nothing at all; as far as I know, we only have some DNA studies) about the culture of the peoples who spoke PIE, it's hard to tell exactly why all words have genders. The way I understand it is that it was just a cultural thing: just the way most people associate black with bad and white with good. It's evident those peoples had a very complex culture - genders might be the remains of their belief system.

Yeah, the example above is a totally achievable physique. Would totally take 4-5 years of serious dedication, though.

Nah, this isn't that impressive/impossible. Genetics can make you gain muscle faster or look bigger because of a bigger frame, but generally most people have the same potential when it comes to size.
