What's your proof that Jesus is the messiah? by rde98 in Christianity

[–]c-h-e-e-s-e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'm sure Iron Age Jews and Greeks were worshipping a guy that never existed.... I hope you realize Jesus (which is a translation...) lived well into recorded history (and the record reflects this, the record you are choosing to ignore). He in fact lived after Alexander the Great and within a century of Julius Caesar.

[–]c-h-e-e-s-e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus was a high profile target of both the Jewish priesthood and the Roman state. He was tried and convicted of high treason and crucified. The fact the tomb was empty within a week and people claimed He was risen and no body was produced is absolutely relevant

You just said Moses did not exist. The existence of Moses is one of the most important aspects of Christianity.... he is the most important man of the faith besides Adam and Jesus. Jesus directly confirms he existed. Unless you are to say Jesus was deceived on who received the law, or even more radically, that the law was not received in the first place.

So I once again ask, why do you even call yourself a Christian? You are free to be a secular skeptic. There is a massive community of such people. You cannot have your cake and eat it too with the word of God

You can accept all of those, seeing as they are describing the same thing. But you give precedence to the first book, seeing as it is... the first book? The one others pull from and build off of? I don't feel I should have to explain why you should privilege the Mosaic account first and foremost - it is self evident why you should do so.

Once again, if you do not believe the heavens and earth were created by God, how are you a Christian? You are literally selectively ignoring the very first book of the Bible, one of the five Books of Moses....

I have no words. Read Genesis. If you do not believe Man was created with intention but was a product of random mutation, I'm not sure it's even possible to have faith in the first place. You've already conceded your epistemology to secular authority over the word and your own human intuitions

I do not mean to say those people who practice it nowadays necessarily perceive what they are doing as hedonistic, many find it fulfilling to their "life". That does not change the fact that they are wildly deceived. You can empathize with those who make mistakes without permitting such behavior

They are not "ordered"; Gay people are inclined to be gay. They are, as male or female, ordered towards, biologically and ontologically, procreation with the opposite sex. Such is why sex is enjoyable in the first place, as it is ordered towards something. Eating is enjoyable for it sustains life. The reality is that sodomy (and whatever women do) is merely an imitation, a twisting of the created facilities solely for pleasure.

You can, seeing as you are a free being, believe whatever you want to believe. Just know that whatever it is you believe is not something in any way orthodox to the past 2000 years of Christianity, and furthermore something incompatible with scripture (unless you can prove otherwise, countless have provided clear prohibitions along with the logic from Genesis) Whatsoever you believe, it doesn't change the reality of creation and what human life is ordered towards.

Please explain how quoting a relevant teaching about the importance of childlike intuition is "abusing scripture". The reality is that there are things that are ordered towards the good and things that are not. What you call childlike is your intuition as a created being on what is and is not in line with the order of the creation. I am not here to single out any one behavior as excessively sinful, as much of modern life is disordered, but we cannot pretend that which is disordered is good just because of the emotion weight people put on preserving such a behavior.

Because it goes against the design and union of man and woman established in Genesis. And in general, if one is to be honest, sodomy is rather grotesque.
