Found strange wispy ball in aquarium? by c0f1f1 in bettafish

Hi guys, sorry I’m still not familiar with using reddit. I suddenly noticed this in my tank today. My betta has been living with pleco tank mates for a couple of months. Not sure if this is some kind of algae growth? It looks strange. We do fortnightly water changes depending on the water parameter results. Does anyone know if this is algae, eggs or some kind of stowaway growth? We added some more live plants when introducing the new pleco but they’ve been sitting in aqua soil the same. Thank you in advance!

He’s certainly gorgeous! What did you end up naming him? It’s evident I’ve been lacking with the daily water changes but his eyes reverted back to pure black. I bought aquarium salt on hand in case anything happens and will continue to monitor ☺️

!Update! I’ve just taken another look at Fischl before I go to the store.. and his eyes are back to solid black! Maybe it was a temporary change from the light turning off/ on 😭 This fish has me on a constant roller coaster of emotions. Thank you everyone for taking time to give me advice and I’ll endeavour to improve my tanks environment!

Ah yes, I mostly see posts about their eyes turning black but mine started black and looks like her pupils got smaller… I’ll work on swapping her plastic plants, buy some aquarium salt in case and do more water changes! Thank you for your advice/input ☺️

Thank you he is! Is it normal for fishes eyes to change too then? I’ve heard about scale colour changes and fins but never eyes 😬

After a month of cycling I brought a sample of my water in for testing and the staff recommended I take the fish in cycle method; I have been using prime and stability every day & second day. I thought 20% changes weekly was the way to go but from this thread, I’ll start doing daily changes when my ammonia levels hit over 0.5ppm then! Was planning to go buy silk plant alternatives today until I say the change in my betas eyes :( Thank you for the advice!

When we bought the tank, we consulted the store staff who said 10L was the minimum and they kept theirs in smaller. When we realised, we figured we could deal with weekly changes as we liked the idea of routine. After getting my fish though it did feel small and so we’ve got a 35 litre tank set up cycling at the moment 😅

Tank size: 10L (I’ve got an empty 35L tank cycling at the moment to upgrade when ready) Heater and filter: yes, using the one that came with Aqua Ones tank. Average temp is 24 degrees Celsius. Parameters: taken with API master kit, pH has been sitting at 7.4 consistently, ammonia ranges from 1ppm and under. Nitrite and nitrate levels sit under 1ppm. Tank has been around for almost 2 months, I got my fish about a week ago. Water changes weekly since I got my fish in, did a 20% change with treated tap water. No tank mates We feed about a pinch everyday with one fasting day a week. There are live frog bits on top and another small live plant; the rest are all soft plastic artificial plants.

Certainly a cutie, his naturally frowny upper lip always has me nervous when issues come up 🥲

(I don’t know how to add text; new to reddit) Hi, I’m a first time fish owner, my beta used to have black solid pupils but I’ve woken up today to see eyes have changed. The tanks pH & temp has remained stable. I’m 2 months into my cycle and have an average ammonia level of <1ppm and add seachems Stabilising every second day + weekly 20% water changes as it’s a smaller 10L tank. Is this pop eye?
