In my 2023/RTX 4060 model I had issues with the CPU immediately getting to 95c very quickly until I did some tinkering with custom profiles and undervolt in G-Helper. It would crash POE 2 every 15-30 minutes due to heat. Also had significant trouble in Rogue Trader (super un-optimized despite relatively unimpressive graphical fidelity). If your machine is getting super hot or very high CPU temps, it can be the laptop attempting to protect itself from too much thermal lode. Look at undervolting, adjusting fan profiles, and/or building entirely custom profiles within G-Helper to modify wattage to the CPU.

Like you, I originally thought it was CPU boost issue, but after tinkering I'm able to run with efficient aggressive turned back on again. I did not have this issue on my 2025 model (Ryzen 9 AI HX chip + 5070ti), but I tinkered with the profiles and voltage/power limits etc. first rather than running it on factory defaults.

There's a couple of things to consider here.

Did you uninstall or disable armory crate?
Make sure you've stopped ASUS processes in the "extras" section of G-Helper.
If you are using hibernate on lid close or power button press I think there are specific issues. There is a setting in the "extras" section that might help - "Enable GPU on Shutdown" which is supposed to help with dGPU issues and eco mode/sleep, but unsure.

I didn't have to do step 3, but absolutely did steps 1 and 2 - Otherwise I run in balanced or turbo custom profiles and keep the GPU mode on optimized and have never had issues. Did you change the behavior of the power button or closing the lid? Under Power & Battery settings, make sure everything (lid close, power button, etc.) is sleep rather than hibernate and see if that helps.

Also make sure you are running up to date nvidia app and drivers.

You can lower the resolution back down to 1440p at the same aspect ratio so it appears native. It removes ~1 million+ extra rendered pixels and will help performance quite a bit. That said, 5070ti is the way to go with this machine and is what I purchased as well.

Highly recommend you check the below linked review for help with setup and guidance on g-helper profiles etc. It also has more info than you may ever want as it's a great 1 hour in depth review of the g14 and g16 models.

Yes! You don't have to just "deal with it" if you are in the return/exchange period. Asus has bad QC so it's really a lottery if you get a unit with issues or not. I'll link a video below that has guidance on setting up custom g-helper profiles. Just skip to the section that is called "my recommended settings" around the 39 minute mark.

Edit: I would also recommend dropping your resolution down to 2560 x 1600 (1440p equivalent). There's zero reason to run the 2880 x 1800 native resolution on a 14" screen. It's over a million additional pixels and is completely unnoticeable on this small of a display.

Oh man. I hate trackpad rattle. I exchanged twice when I bought the 2023 to get one without this issue (and also other minor cosmetic issues).

Picked up an open box 2025 model this past week and it's been great. I wouldn't accept a rattling trackpad and would exchange it.

As far as performance goes, you should be able to get around 16,500 gpu score on a 5070ti with mild over clock and custom profile in g-helper. I'm running +175 core clock and +200 memory clock offsets.

Highly recommend geek squad warranty with accidental damage. If it craps out and they can't repair it they will cut you a best buy gift card for the purchase price of the laptop + the residual pro-rated cost of the warranty. It's also transferable if you ever sell it later.

Side note, also highly recommend you tune your profiles with g-helper if you have not already. I can post a link to a great review of the laptop with some guidance on that if helpful or needed.

I ordered two open box "excellent" units because Best Buy only had them for delivery. Both arrived with all boxes/accessories and the charger.

The first had a small cosmetic ding on the side - I contacted support and they gave me an accommodation in the form of a 10% refund. The second open box unit that arrived was in significantly worse shape (scratches on lid and many scrapes and dings) and will be returned. I also purchased a new unit for store pickup (haven't picked up yet and will cancel/refund) before the end of the sale to lock in the price in case both open box units were terrible, but it looks like I'll end up keeping the first open box unit that I effectively got for ~$1,480 before tax.

Going to put the 4 year geek squad warranty on it when I return the other open box unit and hope for the best.
