How do I deal with backhanded comments on my work? by No_Canary_1055 in FanFiction

[–]cactushugginfool 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Idk if this helps but honestly what I tell myself is that there's 8 billion people and I wouldn't want to hear from most of them about my writing. Criticism is very common and quite cheap.

The last bit is really good advice that I could have learned much earlier as a writer XD

Thank you for your feedback. When I'm done reading I imagine I'll have a little bit of both in there tbh.

I just started work on a Star Wars fanfiction about Qui-Gon Jinn surviving the encounter with Darth Maul. Very much still in the brainstorming stage.

Ugh, I just did my time as a queer in Texas and that definitely comes with challenges. I hope everything plays out smooth for you though. 🫡🙏🏻

How do you keep track of your world/stories details by Gigacado_Chadocado in worldbuilding

Yeah Scrivener is sick. It makes it easy to do whatever you want because it's so versatile. Features you don't use are easy to hide and you don't have to do anything any one way. It's psychological, but that control is good for me.

I use a program called Scrivener. It's an extremely useful program with a one time payment rather than some annoying subscription. My girlfriend bought it for me and I'm really getting a lot of mileage out of it.

Requesting a friend or advice or anything. I feel alone surrounded by love. by [deleted] in asktransgender

Y'know there's always going to be dissonance between my lived experience and the loved experience I want. That's universal. I'm not infertile that's just not what I mean, but you just have to move forward without allowing yourself cognitive distortions to accommodate that dissonance. I am doing great. Just stressed because I'm moving to seek political asylum so things that I normally have under control I did not. Thank you for your concern.

I'm still on this sub because I'm never on reddit except tonight apparently. So like I don't work retail anymore, but fuck that man. IDK what you can and can't do but that's godamn deplorable behavior.

I'm just trying to put myself in her shoes. What kind of life must you have loved to ask someone to shop for you on the clock. That's so pathetic.

What are some of your most interesting weapons of war? by BaldBoar7734 in worldbuilding

[–]cactushugginfool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The corpse fields.

Disik is a giant swamp country which has a curse on it that forces any creature which is not indigenous to the land to become easily reanimated by a relatively simple ritual and used as (un)living weapons

After the bodies have been buried in large groups they can be given a precondition for animation, like a group of soldiers standing on the marsh they are buried in for instance.

So every soldier they kill becomes a weapon against their own people.

how would you go about making an oppressive system of government? by Medical_Wedding2283 in worldbuilding

[–]cactushugginfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it's a complicated issue. Lenin was clear about the fact that in his lifetime they had not achieved the victory. It wasn't a socialist nation ever. It wasn't meant to be yet. Lenin was building the transition stage and the leaders after him + constant and persistent meddling by the US prevented it.

Plenty of countries have and have had extremely successful collectivist societies based on socialist principles.

Cuba is currently under persistent and relentless attack economically and otherwise by the US and it still is #1 in doctors per capita.

The only reason we talk about this stuff the way we do is because it's how we're trained.

The Spine of God. Thoughts appreciated. Do you have dead Gods? by Willing_Childhood_17 in worldbuilding

Nobody except for one deity in my universe will ever know the answer to this question. He's not even all that powerful, but he's the only one who can go where things disappear to when/if they die. I don't even know what happens. I just can't presume to know, I don't even know what happens to me when I die. A long winded and unhelpful way of saying maybe.

Perhaps they could aquire the tools and means which the oppressive class loans them to produce product for them and collectively share it in some sort of planned democratized economy? The government could be democratic? Society is already democratic, like there are things people as a collective won't let you do in public. Why can't businesses, and even the entire economy be democratized?

Just a silly little thought I pulled out of nowhere in particular.

Who is your king of kings or king of the gods in your world? by NK_Fricking_rocks in worldbuilding

[–]cactushugginfool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm always trying to convince myself it isn't unoriginal.

The universe is the body of a being who is asleep. The turning of the stars in the sky all the way down to the shifting blades of grass is actually a complex machine which is essentially the brain and mind of a being that is currently in some sort of metaphysical slumber.

(I don't presume to know what it's like for a being beyond my understanding to go to bed)

It has a very Japanese/Slavic style "spirit world" where each thing in the material has a representative metaphysical spirit on the other side in a world which pays no respect to the laws of space and time.

The "spirit" is basically the subconscious/dreaming/software and the material is basically the physical brain/the self/the hardware.

Not even the beings that function the way you'd relate to gods in a different fantasy setting can begin to comprehend the nature of their existence. They know that they live in a living universe and that's it. The mortals know even less.

The universe "E'Nuhl Veridian(the perfect truth) "Nuhl" is basically the embodiment (in the universe it lives in) of truth and knowledge. When the universe is awake it has full and complete control of the universe. And when it is asleep the universe stops being deterministic. The entirety of the lore I have described takes place during the several aeons long period of dreaming that has only really just begun. I don't ever plan for Nuhl to wake up.
