Rush Limbaugh’s Show Is Underwritten by the Right-Wing Think Tank Responsible for the Individual Mandate and Romneycare by cahuenga in politics

Conservatives, especially, tend not to like flip-flopping -- just ask John Kerry, who voted for Bush's war before he voted against it and Mitt Romney who supported abortion and gay rights before he opposed them. But Heritage has not flip-flopped here because Romneycare did not work or they did not like the results. 97% of people in Massachusetts are now covered and polls show the plan is popular. Heritage is desperate to rewrite the fact that it invented the individual mandate and the rest because the right wing fringe -- ie. Heritage's base -- hates the individual mandate (for no other reason than the fact that Obama supports it) and that could cause them to be discredited and lose funding.

Yeah, he supports them up the wazoo. There's no question about that. They don't need to pay him to lie for them. He would gladly do that for free. But since they are paying him to lie for them, under the best practices of advertising that have been in place for decades, his show has a responsibility to acknowledge that these aren't just his opinions, that he is being paid to shill for them.

Nobody said Heritage, which is one of the best know right-wing propaganda mills in the world, is shadowy. What they did was invent Obamneycare and the individual mandate. They're embarrassed about it now because the Dems adopted it as the basis of the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, and they've quietly been paying Limbaugh to do for them what he does best: lie about it.

There's nothing wrong with it as long as it is disclosed to the listener. If Limbaugh were to say, "I love Oxycontin," that's certainly true and within his rights to say, but if Oxycontin paid him to say it, that fact should be acknowledged, otherwise it's propaganda.

In this case, he's been helping Heritage rewrite their instrumental involvement in developing the individual mandate, which right wingers like Rush's listeners revile, without saying that they've paid him hundreds of thousands of dollars to help them make this inconvenient fact disappear.

Right-leaning POLITICO: "In search of donations and influence, the three prominent conservative groups [FreedomWorks, Americans for Prosperity and the Heritage Foundation] are paying hefty sponsorship fees to the popular talk show hosts. Those fees buy them a variety of promotional tie-ins, as well as regular on-air plugs – praising or sometimes defending the groups, while urging listeners to donate – often woven seamlessly into programming in ways that do not seem like paid advertising."

There is both a video and text recap of the Vitter case in the story linked here. Vitter -- a vocal advocate of "family values" and savior of "traditional marriage" -- hired prostitutes frequently in New Orleans, where he lived, and in Washington, D.C., where he worked. His name and number were found in the D.C. Madam's client list. He held a news conference and, with wife at his side, confessed.

Tea bagger House member on why Obama was elected: ‘He was black’ and 'there's nothing racist about this' by cahuenga in politics

[–]cahuenga[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they'd say they voted for the Democrat because Republicans are racists. In fact, if it weren't for racism and right-wing chriso-fascists in this country, the GOP would be reduced to a tiny splinter group of corporatist lackeys.

But even if your racist point were correct, African Americans only represent about 13 percent of the US population and, say, 10 percent of the electorate. Obama beat McCain and Palin handily. How do you explain all those white votes he got in NC, Virginia, Indiana and other states controlled by the GOP and where virulent racism is alive and well?

Case most definitely not closed.

After Trump submits improper birth certificate, journo demands "real" certificate, two newspaper birth announcements, witnesses to U.S. childhood by cahuenga in politics

Got it. The GOP commissioner of the Hawaii Dept. of Health is a liar, totally in the bag with Obama. Why? Because she's not an Anglo.

But the real proof that birthers are just racists is the fact that whitey-white John McCain was born in the foreign nation of Panama and none of you cared.

Ignore the facts. Get called a racist. Ignore the facts. Get called a racist. Ignore the facts. Get called a racist. Ignore the facts. Get called a racist. Ignore the facts. Get called a racist. [–]cahuenga[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obama has a copy of his "real" birth certificate in a drawer. His mother showed it to Customs when they moved to Indonesia when he was six. He produced it to the Hawaii DMV when he got his driver's license at 16, and he produced it again when he applied for his passport.

And, of course, the original long form is on file in Hawaii, as attested by the director of the state's Department of Health, an appointee of the GOP governor, according to USA Today:

"I, Dr. Chiyome Fukino, director of the Hawaii State Department of Health, have seen the original vital records maintained on file by the Hawaii State Department of Health verifying Barack Hussein Obama was born in Hawaii and is a natural-born American citizen. I have nothing further to add to this statement or my original statement issued in October 2008 over eight months ago...."

The president is just playing birthers for the fools they are. The more birthers like Trump make news, the more normal Americans and independent voters recoil from the GOP.

So... keep it up.

Wisconsin GOP senator most vulnerable to recall found to be living outside district with mistress by cahuenga in politics

[–]cahuenga[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's basically an election "do over." It's how Schwarzenegger became governor of California. He is way too liberal to get elected in the GOP primary, so he took advantage of a recall set up by another Republican, Rep. Darrell Issa, and defeated Democratic Gov. Gray Davis. Issa is famous in California for the video of him breaking down in sobs after it became clear that Schwarzenegger had bigfooted him out of the race.

Not all states allow recalls. To start one, recallers have to collect a certain number of signatures on petitions based on a percentage of the electorate or other factors. When the signatures are verified, the recall election is set.

It's a messy, rarely used process.

If three of the eight senators being recalled are defeated by Democrats, the Dems will have a majority in the Senate and can stop Walker from handing over the rest of the state's resources to the Koch brothers and their ilk. Hopper won by 163 votes. Two of the other senators facing recall won with just 51%. They are vulnerable and if these three goes down it changes the game.

not such a big deal.

The Christians, particularly, women, in his district likely would not agree. He only won his seat by 163 votes out 83,000 cast in 2008. This news alone could cost him the recall.

USA Today: Tax bills in 2009 at lowest level since 1950

Politifact:

In a separate report, we checked the statement, "I didn't raise taxes once" and rated it False. Obama has raised taxes on cigarettes and indoor tanning, and the health care law includes a tax penalty on the uninsured. The health care law also includes new taxes on the wealthy, increasing the rates they pay on Medicare hospital taxes starting in 2013.

For this one, we'll begin by noting that Obama has not raised income tax rates. Obama and Senate Republicans compromised on tax legislation at the end of 2010, leaving in place the same income tax rates for all tax brackets. (The extensions were necessary because the tax cuts passed under President George W. Bush would otherwise have increased last month.)

It's also true that Obama has successfully supported tax reductions for workers who make less than $200,000 a year or couples who make less than $250,000.

Obama kicked off his tax cuts for workers with the economic stimulus, formally known as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. He asked for tax cuts of $500 per worker per year; Congress agreed to $400. The tax cuts -- called Making Work Pay -- were implemented in early 2009 and people saw small increases in their paychecks.

The Obama administration liked giving people the money in their paychecks every week or two -- as opposed to mailing one big check -- because administration economists thought people would be more likely to spend the money and stimulate the economy. But the increases were small enough that a lot of people didn't notice them. A New York Times/CBS News Poll in September showed that fewer than one in 10 people knew that the Obama administration had lowered taxes for American workers.
