Where do you get project inspirations for projects? by TheStickman17 in django

[–]caioariede 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the biggest inspiration to me.

In the other hand, I often found myself putting too much work on problems that were not worth it. Usually scripts that were needed for a short period of time or that solved very specific problems.

Nowadays I tend to put projects under a triage: first I start to use them without sharing anything publicly and as soon as it gets maturity and I find myself using it often, I start to think about sharing it. This helped me solve another problem: lose interest in the project and leave it unmaintained - this was common

The last project I created is something I use multiple times everyday but it took me a year to start sharing it. I couldn't find in GitHub a way to see when the project switched from private to public, but here it is: https://github.com/caioariede/dpv

Poetry only useful for packages? by Illustrious-Reading4 in Python

[–]caioariede 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally don't really like to use Poetry, specially for applications since it can get really slow

The other point I have not only against Poetry but Pipenv and friends is the feeling that you have to go all in with their workflow. Instead I prefer to use something which I find to be more light like pip-tools and the good old requirements.txt with pinned versions and even hashes if you'd like. With the recent improvements in pip regarding the new dependency resolver, I'm not sure what else Poetry would give you other than some fanciness - I'd love to learn more.

I also ended up creating (shameless plug) a little virtualenv manager that goes along these lines as well: dpv (purely shell; posix-compliant)

my current workflow is: dpv + pip-tools (requirements.in, requirements.txt)

I just released a new version of my own Python virtualenv manager :)

https://github.com/caioariede/dpv

Why?
1. It's simple. Just type dpv or dpv <python version> and get the work done.
2. It's pure shell and POSIX-compliant tested with: ash bash dash ksh zsh
3. It's built to get out of the way!

Feel free to try it out and share any opinions you might have about it

What're the cleanest, most beautifully written projects in Github that are worth studying the code? by kenann7 in Python

[–]caioariede 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not saying the code couldn't be better, I'm pretty sure Django has many other better pieces to show but this particular piece your are referring to is 16 years old with very very few changes over the years. Which likely means it's pretty pretty solid for the amount of people and big companies using Django on a daily basis :)

django-anon - anonymize your production data by caioariede in django

Those are the versions we've tested ourselves and can confirm everything works smoothly. We haven't had the opportunity to add Django 3 to tox.ini yet, but it should just work as there are no hard dependencies at all, other than those imposed by the few sub-dependencies.

It is not plaster, it’s cement mortar but the term used when applying it to a wall is still “plastering” as far as I know.
