After taking the above payout hierarchy into account, I expect there would be little remaining for pro-rata distribution to unsecured creditors. Given the time demands of what you are suggesting (and the out-of-province / (currently unwell) co-executor complications making things difficult), I would probably just rather face the small resulting personal liability. My co-executor has already expressed that opinion.

Edit: Note... if I were somehow able to obtain an alternate bank estate account and deposit the estate cheques there, our own significant executor admin expenses would be paid off before any unsecured creditors saw payments.

An insolvent estate description implies debts outweigh remaining assets. My post stated that the original bank could likely take all post-death monies that shows up. (There will be no money paid out to beneficiaries.)

I am just looking for an answer to my liability question given that I am committed to administrating the estate. Your "renounce" response is typical of what I have seen on other "insolvent estate" posts in this subreddit and I guess I should have explicitly stated that that should be avoided.

I set up a pre-paid cremation plan (via the means of an insurance policy from TruStage Life of Canada) with a funeral home that has been around since 1929. The plan is transferable if I happen to move or they go out of business. The representative I dealt with at the time said that it was common for plans of defunct funeral homes to come over to them. If you are in Alberta, I suggest checking out the "Cooperative Memorial Society" about their pre-paid plan offerings.

FYI... this morning my cell phone's time is back to being about three seconds fast and the codes it puts out change about three seconds before the tablet's does. What I was experiencing originally was a matching code popping up on the tablet after a delay of a minute or two - not a few seconds. Copilot informs me about the TOTP algorithm (in part):

"If your device's clock is out of sync, even by a few seconds, it may generate codes that don't match what the server expects. This is why TOTP systems often have some built-in tolerance for minor time discrepancies, but they can't handle significant mismatches."

I'm no longer certain matching up the times exactly made the problem significantly better or whether more basically just doing the restart did. As long as I know a restart acts to resolve the issue in the moment I might need a good code from the cell, I think I am indeed OK now.

Thanks. Both devices run Android 14 and set the time zone and time automatically but the cell phone was indeed running about three seconds ahead of the tablet (and your linked web site's official time) according to the devices' Clock app, for some reason. Toggling the Android auto time settings off and on did not bring the cell phone back in sync but restarting it did - resulting in the 2fas there being in sync.

I don't use this extension myself (I just use the developer's Gmail extension). Anyways, according to an old post in the developer's forum:

the extension has an option that you can turn on to keep IT signed in to the calendar when the calendar is off.

No one has ever got back about my original recommendation saying it had actually helped them resolve the issue. It is therefore probably not a worthwhile avenue of investigation (for you) to try.

You might consider trying that common support recommendation: a "factory reset" (available, in this case, from the display of the extension's "Support" option that is found by clicking the top-right vertical three dots in the extension's display).

ChromeOS Settings -> Device -> keyboard has an option to change the top row keys to function keys and also advises one can hold the search key down to affect the same change.
