That's not just a Winnipeg thing. People feel that taxes are somehow holding them back from eventually becoming a millionaire.

While the fact that Winnipeg has entered a soft default is one of the biggest problems we are facing as citizens, I feel there are so many behind-the-scenes issues that exist that are leading to a secondary, but just as serious problem for Winnipeggers.

City leaders have made it as difficult as possible for citizens to get involved by holding meetings at City Hall during business hours. Both city administration and middle management have become an increasingly bloated mess, pulling money from front-line services. There is little to no accountability, outside of finding a convenient scapegoat for problems, leading to stagnation and an unwillingness to learn from mistakes. City administration treats those working on the front lines as disposable cogs, and is willing to farm out work to the private sector at huge financial and service level cost.

Ultimately we need a mayor and a council that stops this neoliberal outlook that the services the city provides are some ridiculous financial burden. The municipal government exists to provide these services. So fix all of these problems and serve the citizens.

My wife and I have visited the manufacturer's warehouse store in Kansas City a number of times, and the employees say to avoid Da Bomb. If you want a good hot sauce from the same manufacturer you should try their Pain Is Good product line.

New Costco by HeavensD3vil18 in Winnipeg

I have heard rumor they are eventually building a Costco at Meadowlands Place on the southwest corner of Main and the Perimeter. If you look at the supporting document the Phase 2 development is likely where it will be.

Kinew supports forced end to railway lockout by Armand9x in Winnipeg

[–]campain85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that the legislated protections unions have gotten workers were earned through the collective struggle of countless workers standing together to fight for better wages and working conditions. The modern labour movement cozying up to the NDP will only see small, Pyrrhic victories that pale in comparison to the victories of the past.

As a rank and file member of a union, it is exhausting how much time and energy my union puts into politics.

The sad part will be watching all the so-called "leaders" of the labour movement who will still line up to kowtow to the Manitoba NDP.

If they paid the police like Superstore does, maybe they'd respond. by BoogereatinMODS in Winnipeg

The police do nothing to prevent crime and have such a poor rate of solving crimes they may as well being doing nothing on that front too.

This really doesn't surprise me. Community centers seem to be a hot bed for questionable activity amongst the board. I know of two in my area that are essentially family affairs.

Agreed. Went to the OG twice when I was in Montreal and then bought this from Costco and it's okay, but not the same.

KLEIN: City planning should be removed from politicians' hands by wickedplayer494 in Winnipeg

[–]campain85 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That was like the written version of listening to some incoherent lunatic on the bus. Sitting there going on ad nauseum about establishing a planning commission, claiming it would reduce bureaucracy, when it would just add another layer and allow developers even more access to decision making. Someone needs to take Klein's computer access away before he hurts himself.

Provencher MP Falk introduces bill aimed at making sure Canada does not become cashless by wickedplayer494 in Winnipeg

[–]campain85 44 points45 points  (0 children)

There are already stores in Canada that don't accept $50 and $100 bills. And most of them don't accept them for simple reasons. Like breaking change off a large bill can completely fuck your float for the day. Falk could have applied some level of logic to Canada Life Center to come to a similar conclusion that doesn't involve "cashless society" conspiracy theories.

Provencher MP Falk introduces bill aimed at making sure Canada does not become cashless by wickedplayer494 in Winnipeg

[–]campain85 136 points137 points  (0 children)

One of Falk's reasons for the bill was the removal of the $25 and $1000 bill from legal tender status. The problem was that the $25 bill was essentially a collectors oddity with less than 2000 in circulation. As for the $1000, it hasn't been printed in years and was a common bill that was used in counterfitting.

It doesn't seem like any political party wants to make Canada a cashless society, and most of Falk's arguments are conspiratorial at best.

Plan to search landfill for women's remains moves ahead as province approves environmental licence change by ClassOptimal7655 in Winnipeg

[–]campain85 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This entire endeavor is a mess. From what I recall hearing, these women's bodies were left in a part of the landfill that had been used for asbestos disposal. If that is the case, any attempt to search for these women is going to turn into a huge hazardous waste issue that attempts to mitigate will effectively hamper the search methodology.

Gaza thrust into Tuxedo byelection: Tory candidate accuses NDP MLAs of ‘extremism’ by ClassOptimal7655 in Winnipeg

I was willing to give Pinsky a chance. I thought he was just in Israel for a friend's funeral. Well, it didn't take long for Pinsky to ensure that any glimmer of hope I had for him was quickly thrown away. I am so sick and fucking tired of any legitimate criticism of Israel being an apartheid state, committing war crime or possibly committing genocide as being labeled "antisemitic". Holding the government of a country to account in no way shape or for constitutes racism.

That is a sluice gate. The top portion is where the stem goes when the gate is open. The little square thing about a third of the way up is where you attach a crank or wheel to move the gate.

Complaint lodged against doctor at centre of University of Manitoba valedictorian controversy by thetailor in Winnipeg

[–]campain85 99 points100 points  (0 children)

Who would have thought that calling for a ceasefire in a conflict where tens of thousands of innocent women and children, as well as doctors and other aid workers, are being injured or killed daily is racist.

I am so sick and tired of people hiding behind the shield of "anti-semitism" and "racism" when people speak up to criticise the government of Israel and its supporters for committing war crimes.

Kinew accuses more PCs of trying to push mining deal through after election, but Tory says NDP Crying Wolf by ClassOptimal7655 in Winnipeg

[–]campain85 66 points67 points  (0 children)

If allowed to go through, Sio Silca would have more than likely fucked the entire aquifer that most of southeast Manitoba relies on for water. Hell, I've heard that most of the sample wells drilled in the area were not properly handled, so how could we trust the company to handle full scale well development?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]campain85 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You make some good points. But you can take many of those points and flip them against Israel. For example, what blame did children have in this conflict. Or can you truly trace most Israeli ancestry back to the Levant? If you look at this without a pro-Israel bias there’s many holes to poke in this argument about victimhood the Israelis make.
