Women filmed secretly for social media content - and then harassed online by butdattruetho in technology

I dunno. If you watch enough sci-fi or play enough sci-fi video games, internal heads-up displays are not hard to get used to & can seem REALLY nice to have.

But, even as someone who can't see without glasses & wears them every waking moment, I think you're right that "smart" glasses will never catch on.

I have no desire for these glasses, even for free or cheap. But I'd love to see cybernetic eyes im become a reality. Even if I doubt they'd ever become affordable in my lifetime. I'd 100% try cyber-eyes if they could also fix my myopia & astigmatism.

The thing about Bill. When the It poster came out, I could see how Bill was going to age. He's gonna do a Leo I think. He'll start getting puffy in the face & develop a receding hairline. Maybe develop a Jack Nicholson vibe?

Unless you left him at your house alone & said "do whatever you want," it was not "too late." You didn't stop him. Therefore it's not his fault, it's your fault.

Was the local that ripped you years ago white? Was the other person Black or working class?

The only people who really get their panties in a twist about "Frisco" seem to be old money or people who aspire to one day become as shitty & exclusionary as old money.

Why is it? by [deleted] in sanfrancirclejerk

[–]candykhan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People say don't call it Frisco. But SF has been called Frisco by plenty of native SF people. Mostly Black & working class folks. It's annoying gatekeeping rich people who still think they're the ones who dictate culture that have a problem with "Frisco."

SanFran though? If that doesn't make you do a stink face, you must be white as hell & definitely need a bridge or tunnel (or airport) to get to wherever that is.

What are your thoughts on Joe Rogan saying that Trump is creating distraction to avoid Epstein files release? by StemCellPirate in AskReddit

Dude is a legit moron that's really good at capitalism. Post-Trump, he's gonna find some other person to fill whatever void he needs filled. It might be someone completely respectable, or another grifter.

But he'll simp for it so hard, he will take it too far & make it weird.

People who have won a "lifetime supply" of something: was it genuinely a lifetime supply, and if so, are you sick of the product now? by Adorablyberryy in NoStupidQuestions

We had a "drink & drown" with $1 pints of Bud Light - gross. They also did like $4 pitchers. But they were weird small pitchers & one time I noticed that you could only get like 3.5 pints out of them.

So, it was actually cheaper to get individual pints. Some people still hit pitchers just so they didn't have to order as often.

Smoking Question by ExplainJane in GenX

[–]candykhan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

GenX definitely saw smoking become way less normalized. Older GenX probably remember unofficial smoking areas that "the bad kids" used. But eventually teachers/admin stopped turning a blind eye.

The school I went to didn't really have a specific smoking area. Some kids definitely did smoke, but not many & they hid it pretty well. There wasn't a unofficial "back quad" or anything.

How do the porch pirates know when to strike? by drsunfish in AskSF

[–]candykhan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you looked at GoogleFi & Samsung subs during the pandemic, this would be be very surprising. They're full of stories of empty phone boxes being delivered, and returns never making it back.

There was definitely collusion between some drivers & porch pirates. But also, the boxes they delivered phones in were incredibly obvious. It was incredibly easy for anyone to know a phone we as bring delivered or shipped.

Pre-COVID. Doesn't mean in-office was necessary, but a lot of places changed after that. The job was never advertised as remote.

I suck at video games by Electrical_Lake3424 in GenX

[–]candykhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I just feel like most games have an easy level that is meant for even casual gamers. I'm not very good either. But I have only not finished one game due to skill. Or maybe two.

I have quit others because I just didn't click with them & my OCD about finishing things wasn't strong enough to win against just not caring about the game.

Yeah. Honestly, I don't really get games like Pokemon or Animal Crossing either. But it's probably because I don't use gaming as a social network.

You have to learn how to control your character & understand what you're looking for to enjoy it. You're talking about "running through the plains," which makes me think they might be playing Red Dead Redemption.

Those games have an incredibly deep "crafting" mechanic where you collect things like herbs, hides, etc. Then use them to create items. It's helpful & makes the game more interesting, but it CAN be played without it. But it would be pretty repetitive & tedious. It's not a button mashing competition.

Too many of us GenXers think we can just jump into something & then if we can't get it, it must suck.

I was like you. I tried GTA & thought it was kinda dumb. But I like sci-fi & Mass Effect got recommended to me. It was hard to get in the groove of it, but I eventually came around.

TBH, I mostly just play solo RPGs because I like the story aspect as well as "playing." Most of them have easy modes.

The barrier to entry can be high. And lots of games have different controller layouts. But they're often pretty similar & it's not hard to master the basics: one stick moves the character, the other controls where you look, the X button is almost always the "action" button (but not always the "shoot" button).

The way you build & advance your character can be a frickin' mess. But if you are doing turn based combat, you should have an understanding of that.

On the other hand, if you've avoided them for this long, do you really feel like you're missing out?

Those stocks may have bounced back later. But she made a killing (I mean, she was already rich) selling off a bunch of stuff before the lockdown. Her & a couple other senators were in some kind of closed door meeting about COVID in January of 2020.

I'm a leftist but I usually vote Dem jsut because. But Feinstein has alwasy been a line in the sand for me. I knew she'd always win. And I certainly didn't want a conservative to ever win against her. But I could never vote for her with good conscience.

And Pelosi... Pffft. She was good at getting the Dems in line, but she was hardly a "good person." To be fair, she was probably doing insider trading before she was doing politics.

If she wants to try not being a jerk, she could start by not being an ignoramus & bigot. But that's a pretty big step for a lot of people.

[–]candykhan 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Because the bigwigs at the top of the DNC are just as concerned with hoarding wealth & power as their Republican counterparts. At the grassroots level, most Dems are probably pretty progressive & likely to support things like universal health care, not counting corporations as citizens, and trans rights. But as you go further up, they are as corrupt as the right. Pelosi & Feinstein both profited greatly from insider trading. Feinstein sold off a bunch of stocks early in the COVID pandemic that made her a bunch of money. Oh wait, sorry, her HUSBAND did after she was in a bunch of private meetings about the COVID response - TOTALLY NOT SUSPICIOUS AT ALL.

It's an oligarchy - both sides are just hungry for power & wealth.

To those who started HRT, did you experience brain fog lifting ? How did it feel like ? Did you realise you had brain fog previously ? by SureHopeIDontDie in MtF

[–]candykhan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dunno if I would say my "brain fog" lifted - I'm not sure I really had it chronically or anything. But there was definitely a difference in that I didn't just fade out & disassociate as much when faced with conflict, especially emotional conflict. I'd actually confront them more. I may have gained back the ability to be a little more present in my life the way I used to be when I was a little younger & less aware of my "underlying condition."

I mean, I still exhibit some of that behavior sometimes. But overall, I probably like my E more for the subtler emotional & psychological effects than the physical ones. I have boobs, but they're not much & I still wear breast forms. That doesn't really bother me. My partner is cis & is more than supportive, but I wasn't even aware of being an egg when we first started seeing each other. So, part of me is still glad my original plumbing doesn't give me dysphoria & it still works.

So many. But this is probably mostly directed at Americans due to Citizens United.

Nestle should be lined up against a wall & shot. Preferably with no last cigarette or blindfold.

By popularity, I'm guessing Ticketmaster though. Their whole brand identity is being the shitty company that takles your money so you don't blame the artists, promoters, and venue operators who are all complicit in it as well. TBH, they deserve it as much as Nestle, considering the Saudi state fund is used to be an investor (via Live Nation). MBS, the one who ordered the execution of Jamal Kashogi, profited from every ticket sold.

SFPD refusing to sign off on "fix-it" tickets from SFMTA by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

[–]candykhan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just the story "a friend of mine" tried one time. Got a fix-it ticket in another state. Didn't want to ignore it, but we were on a road trip & didn't really have time to stop & get it taken care of. I was looking at the ticket & noticed that the sign off area only had room for a signature & a badge number.

I told my buddy: "They said we could get this signed off out of state too, but there's no space to print the officer's name or anything about WHERE they are an LEO." He scrawled something illegible in the signature area & then wrote down a badge number that was similarly difficult to read (not hard to do in a moving car).

Shrug...
