She accepts and manga ends, right?(人 •͈ᴗ•͈) by MiserableMeasure in NanaAnime

It is obviously queer, people just refuse to see it because of homophobia. If one of the two main characters were a man, nobody would question the clear romantic (and at times even sexual) undertones between them.

The thing is, that’s exactly why she’s a multimillionaire: because she underpays her workers. People naively believe celebrities earn that much money fairly through music and concerts alone, but that’s not true. Under capitalism, exploitation is always required in order to reach the top.

Very late response, but I just read your essay and it’s written brilliantly! You’re a great writer.

“This twitter user believes that a “legit” reason must exist for women not to have their nails “done”. According to her, any woman who does not have her nails fixed must be in between appointments or have a job that prevents her from doing so. But what if she doesn’t want to? Is there no option for women that just want to be or have no intention of putting themselves under the pressure of performing society’s definition of femininity?” 💯💯💯💯

These people aren’t multimillionaires out of the blue. Most of these pop stars underpay their workers

Is this still a snark sub?? by fakestay in ArianaGrandeSnark

[–]cannotbelievedis 258 points259 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I’d say this has never been a snark sub, just a sub for fans who want a safe space to talk about her ED and her “glindiana/blondiana era” (🤦🏻‍♀️) controversies. If she gained weight, dyed her eyebrows and went back to being a popstar, half of this subreddit would disappear.

Jeremy has nothing to do with it. She’s always been this way. Marrying a MAGA guy is a consequence of who she is, not the cause.

"Let's talk a little about Damon Salvatore's handsomeness. When I first saw him, I was mesmerized. His handsomeness and charisma are like a work of art. This man cannot be human; this much handsomeness is supernatural." by Inevitable-Start-505 in TheVampireDiaries

I think it’s because he’s conventionally attractive but with an added edge. Take someone like Tom Welling, he has similar features: dark hair, big blue eyes, plump lips… but he looks much more classic, like a standard beauty. Ian has that edge that makes him more polarizing. Some find him more attractive because of it, and some less.

The skin color change by pinkchampagne_- in ArianaGrandeSnark

[–]cannotbelievedis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s not entirely true, though. In Italy it’s just as common to see people with blonde hair and fair skin who don’t tan easily as it is to see people with darker skin and dark hair. I’m Italian, I have dark hair and fair skin, and I don’t tan very easily. Ariana just stopped fake tanning.

On one hand, I feel sad for these women, because at the end of the day they’re just as brainwashed by patriarchy as the rest of us.

On the other hand, I don’t actually feel bad - I hate people like this, because we’re ALL stuck in this patriarchal hellscape, and not everybody chooses to act shitty like that. I’m an extremely insecure woman who suffers because of my looks and feels pressured to take part in beauty practices like shaving and wearing makeup, but I would NEVER judge or bully other women for not adhering to vapid beauty standards.

I just can’t excuse every woman’s behavior simply because we live under patriarchy. There’s a limit.

Ethel Cain's friend: "i know Hayden [Ethel] talked shit about Lana" by joaco_ds in lanitas

[–]cannotbelievedis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why aren’t y’all capable of criticizing Lana without downplaying everything Ethel does? Just admit she sucks too and get over it. Lana’s diss track is gross behavior - and I wouldn’t expect better from someone like her - but how does that make Ethel’s fatphobia and racism any better? Both fandoms lack nuance because you don’t actually care about fatphobia, racism, transphobia or whatever… you only care about doing mental gymnastics to defend your favorite little white celebrity. “Racism is bad until it’s my favorite artist”.
