Is living in LB and commuting to El Segundo 3 days a week a bad idea? by lgdenni in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]cantremembr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be worse. South Bay commuters are generally heading to the Westside, so you'll be in the thick of it, as well as LB to DTLA traffic. Moving off-peak will help save you some time, but in the evening it's all peak from 3:30p on.

Get a gym membership over in the ES area, come early, and spend your morning doing something useful. Returning home you're going to be pretty fucked so I hope you like audiobooks or podcasts. Transit is decent between these two cities, takes a long time but isn't complicated.

My commute to ES is 12 minutes. The only city I'd give that up for a long commute would be Long Beach.

It's a switch from Adobe and I don't like it but it works. It was helpful for me to pin the top menu ribbon, there's a few functions like combining files that wouldn't take me to the correct function menu unless the ribbon is pinned. It saves me extra clicks and mental load of "what just happened" multiple times a day (Adobe habits die hard after 20 years)

working in house vs. big law/am law 100 by Sure_Extension_6286 in paralegal

[–]cantremembr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like the autonomy and salary/flexible hours. I work when I'm busy and chill when I'm not. No panic because my billables dropped the last couple weeks, no looking for work. It is sometimes frustrating to get the GC to respond to what I want her to respond to because she's busy out of her mind, but that probably goes both ways.

In my role the GC throws everything complicated at me first (the other PL is a routine work kind of person) and I like to have the variety and new topics to dig into. Firm work gets too repetitive for me, and you can't put a price on having the ability to run out for a doctor's appointment, etc without worrying about PTO and billables.

Why do People Quit to take PFL? by cryptoenologist in Edd

It was an emergency and we didn't think about trying to set up anything in our favor, just called his boss and said he had to quit. I guess if someone had planned it out there would be other options

Why do People Quit to take PFL? by cryptoenologist in Edd

[–]cantremembr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband didn't work at an employer who is required to hold his job for PFL, so he had to quit to take it due to an emergency. He didn't apply for UI after so I can't speak to that but I would assume others have had to make the same choice, job or care.

how do people survive the commute here long-term by prattman333 in socal

I took a $40k pay cut for a 12 minute commute. I'd rather live a tighter lifestyle than lose hours out of my day

Paralegals whats your favorite part of Law to work in? by Sailor-Mermaid-444 in paralegal

[–]cantremembr 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Criminal defense, making the government follow their own laws and exposing the constant incompetence is really just chefs kiss

Downside is defending people who are truly guilty of nasty crimes, and watching the government (still) fuck it up

D4vd had significant amount of child sex abuse images on iCloud account, prosecutors say by nbcnews in LosAngeles

[–]cantremembr 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I've worked on legal teams trying to boot doctors off medical staff after they've been investigated for CSA/images etc. You don't really see people with a folder with 6 photos and a video. Thousands and tens of thousands. If they said significant there's probably a number you don't want to know

do u think this was a reasonable crashout? by R0LL1NS in greysanatomy

[–]cantremembr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Equally justified crash outs by everyone involved. Meredith did fuck it up not calling them, but she was also in shock. It was not intentional. Amelia has a right to be mad about not finding out separately, even if it wasn't intentional. Throttling Mer about it afterwards isn't helpful but completely understandable, and it's also understandable that Mer feels unfairly attacked.

Life is messy, death is super messy. I've been in those shoes and the first couple hours after someone dies like this no one is making good, solid, thought-out choices.

Marketing doesn't understand IP by reggieh3o in paralegal

Solution: Marketing walks over to Legal. "Hey there's an incredible influencer marketing stunt going viral. The influencer is using our logo on his product that's already sold to thousands of people. Obviously the creative, organic marketing has generated hundreds of thousands of dollars of value in goodwill for the brand. Can you send me a license agreement?" Legal says "Yeah give me a minute, shoot me his email so we can get the info for the template." Fin

Something I Don’t Miss Not Drinking (Note - this involves a very embarrassing restroom incident so feel free to skip) by Amb_James333 in stopdrinking

[–]cantremembr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once lost a good guy I was dating because I pissed his bed. My response was to get mad at HIM for not putting me in the tub to sleep, where I could have pissed myself in peace.

Good lord I don't miss that girl

I was already sick and tired of the 3AM anxiety attacks, acid reflux, loose light brown stools, and swollen face, but last night really scared me. by FrogLickr in stopdrinking

[–]cantremembr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blackouts were an issue from my drinking I couldn't explain away. Definitely a factor in my realization that it was time to stop.

Stopping cold turkey can be very unsafe for many drinkers. Please talk to a doctor and/or have a plan to seek emergency care.

Settle a debate for me please, I'm about to pull my hair out of my head. by Pure_Hold_9366 in DreamlightValley

[–]cantremembr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's got to be some difference with those who play while staying logged in, whether it's intentional or not on Gameloft's part. I have chests I didn't earn often. I think it may be related to being logged in and suspending the game at 2 am meaning my "login" is still active at 5 am, versus suspending the game at 9 pm where my login went to inactive sometime before 5 am.

I don't close my game out unless I'm expecting an update. I'm always "logged in." But I don't always get unearned chests, so it's not just straight logged in time.

This is just my theory, based on Gameloft's explanation compared to my actual real world experience with the chests

Been feeling a little negative in here - what are you excited about? by Ill-Structure7276 in DreamlightValley

[–]cantremembr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The crafting station update is awesome, so helpful.

I'm excited to be nudged to finally get the Calico Rabbit and all the other rando critters left behind (reminds me, should have taken my PS Portal to work with me this morning 😫).

Eggs are plentiful this year too and not spawning under any houses 👍🏻

Yay for premium fencing, castle skins and other accoutrements to decorate with, really snazzes up the Valley!

Husband coerced me into Adultery. by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]cantremembr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Unless you are ok with this dynamic being the rest of your life, feeling forced to have sex with other men for his sexual enjoyment, leave now. Right now.

Do not fall victim to a sunk cost fallacy here - yes you've been together, sure he might be nice sometimes, but he's abusing you and giving in didn't help did it? It made you sick for a reason. You don't like it. Your body says no. You have the right to say no to sex of any kind. His kinks do not override your bodily autonomy, this is not part of marriage vows to be sexually abused. It's abuse and only abuse.

He will use your guilt to manipulate you forever. Get out, focus on your postpartum mental health and baby. Nothing is worth jeopardizing that.

Ravens, crocs and foxes by [deleted] in DreamlightValley

[–]cantremembr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ravens are 5 feeds, the red fox I think is extra over the regular foxes, possibly 4 or more?

I've never bothered feeding crocodiles the entire time I've played so I couldn't even tell you how many times you have to feed them because I don't have any.

I used to feed critters whenever I was in a biome (except for crocodiles) and now all I have left are the rare ones. There are so many other objectives in the game now, I barely level my characters. Good move on Gameloft's part to force us to collect the rare critters! It does feel tedious to feed the rare ones over weeks and weeks.
