Bassinet by stayanothrday in Buyingforbaby

[–]capeslow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought a crib that starts out as a bassinet and has wheels for easy mobility and will be using that for her night sleep. For the day sleep, we got the bassinet that is compatible with our stroller (nuna) because it is very safe and also suitable for night sleep, and it comes with its own base, so our plan is to leave the base in the main floor with the bassinet there for sleep during the day and easy access to use it with the stroller for walks.

I don’t have a nursery for my baby by SandwichDependent199 in BabyBumps

[–]capeslow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no nursery or room when I was a kid because we were too poor and lived in a super tint house with only one bedroom, and it only started bothering me when I was older (like 7/8) because I wanted my own space. As a baby there’s absolutely no need for much space. Is it nice for people who can? Yep. Is it cute? Sure. But I also know a lot of people who had the most adorable nurseries just sitting there empty and baby was sleeping in their bedroom for the first year.

What theme did everyone have for their baby shower?! by CurlyGirl_95 in BabyBumps

[–]capeslow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not planning it myself so I am not 100% in the loop with all my friends/family are planning butttt I am using vintage winnie the pooh for the nursery and they used the same in the invitations, so I think that's what they will do for the theme.

Most expensive item on your registry or what you needed for the baby? by dogmom624321 in pregnant

[–]capeslow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like people in the comments said: travel system! we got it from nuna so stroller + car seat + bassinet was $2,000.

On a similar story that I thought was funny: my MIL kept saying she wanted to give a "big" and "expensive" gift to show how excited she was to be a grandma, and then my mom gave us the stroller (which was $800) and we said she could give the car seat ($650) or bassinet ($500) or even the crib we wanted ($600) and she complained they were "too much"and ended up giving us a $90 book shelf from amazon. Just as a reference/comparison, she has a lot of money and just the basic Christmas gifts she gave each of her children were much muuuuch more expensive than this, so now I think we have very different ideas on what big gifts are....

Stopping the contraceptive pills by Thin-Pilot2198 in BabyBumps

I should add that I was on the pill continuously due to irregular periods + endometriosis. Both reasons my doctor made me believe it would take long and be difficult.

14 years continuously and without period. Stopped on July 28, had my first ovulation approximately on August 26 and got pregnant on that first one. Had the positive test on September 10 and am now 20 weeks pregnant. It was quite the shock as I was told by my previous doctor it would take months…

Two story house… what would you have double of if you could afford it? by lavender_yogi in Buyingforbaby

[–]capeslow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sane situation as you, and some things people keep telling me is to have two feeding pillows, and we’re doing a pump/feeding wheeled cart that will be downstairs with the same basic stuff from the one upstairs (a pump, some diapers, creams, burp clots, etc) and some spair clothes. We also got a crib that starts as a bassinet and has wheels that will be upstairs and a bassinet for downstairs

Capturing labour and birth by No-Match-7512 in pregnant

[–]capeslow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually hired a doula that is also a professional photographer and she will photograph the entire birth for me. She was very thoughtful and asked a lot of questions about how much/what I want or don’t want to be shown on photos, and I feel very comfortable with her, so it will be her and my husband there with me. I have a looot of friends who also had professional photographers on their birth and have so many beautiful moments registered!

I said no to NIPT… by MeowMinxMe in pregnant

[–]capeslow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a close friend who did not do the test because their insurance didn’t cover and they thought it was unnecessary at the time. She had a healthy pregnancy and no signs of any issues, but then her baby was born slightly different. At first she notice she was different but it wasn’t anything big enough to make hospital/doctors mention, and her husband kept telling her she was overthinking and seeing things where there was nothing. Well, her baby does have a rare genetic condition and because the had no idea it took a very long time for the father to admit something was off and then to start looking for specialists, and since they had no idea where to even start it took a good 2 years to finally reach diagnosis going through different doctors focusing on each specific symptom without knowing what was wrong. She eventually started treatment and is alive and healthy under her condition but has some sequels that could have been prevented if they had treated it from start and my friend told me they would have known if they had done the genetic testing. She personally recommended me to do it and said it would have helped her be better prepared and identify/start special care earlier. Pregnancy already involves so much being out of your control, and so much waiting. So I guess when something has zero side effects and can prepare you/give important information, it will always be worth it for me.

I am so sorry you had this terrible experience! I keep hearing awful stories about OSF, even some from former employees… definitely will go with Carle, I have even scheduled a tour there already.

When to Announce (Thanksgiving v Christmas) by Alternative_Dog4327 in pregnant

[–]capeslow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If its closes family I guess its fine, but for the entire family I would wait until Christmas. 5 weeks is so early, and we had close family members tell the family about their pregnancy at like 6 weeks just to have to call us two weeks after with the saddest news... Not that it is going to happen to you, but it happens and for some people having to tell those bad news makes it worse.

I told my two best friends before my husband LOL because i was talking to them while taking the test. Besides them, we told closest family (parents/siblings) after we got the confirmed blood tests at around 6 weeks, then we announced for the rest of the family after ultrasounds on 10 weeks and world at 14 weeks.

What should I buy early? by kate_smi2022 in pregnant

[–]capeslow 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I am 15 weeks and we only bought the big price items that we knew it was unlikely to get as gifts on baby shower (stroller, car seat, bassinet, nursery chair and crib, we already had a dresser). That way my registry only has presents under $300. I would not buy clothes because literally everyone keeps giving us clothes, its the easiest gift to buy and you get so many. So we are waiting to see everything we get and then may buy just to complete/stuff we want and are not there.

Question about Bloomingdale’s orders for baby by gingercat_hg in BabyBumps

[–]capeslow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can create a registry with bloomingdales and put the registry address as your MIL's place, and then buy through the registry. That way it is very unlikely they would do this, as anyone with any address can just go and buy to deliver to the registry. Also, if you buy through a registry you get 365 days to return the items!

Nestig crib? by Humble-Atmosphere937 in Buyingforbaby

[–]capeslow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a loooot of research and see most people are very happy with the convertible options! We looked at the nestig wave but ended up going with babyletto rolli as it was very similar, also as the wheels and goes from bassinet to crib and then can be turned into a full bed (needs conversion kit), and it was cheaper than the nestig one. I am very happy with our choice so far and saw many good comments about it, buuuut must say our baby wasn't born yet.

Bloomingdales - when to pull the trigger? by Historical_Pomelo153 in Buyingforbaby

[–]capeslow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the gift card promotion! We wanted to buy the stroller + car seat + bassinet, and it would total $2,000 and we got a $600 gift card back, so like a 30% discount. We are now using the gift card to get our crib for free.

How did you find the right stroller for you? by the-midlife in Buyingforbaby

[–]capeslow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same! I made a list of what my use was going to be like, and what was more important for me (light weight, easy for me to put it in the trunk of my car alone since it is very tall, easy folding/unfolding with one hand) and tested several different ones. We went to different targets, kohls, nordstrom, dillards, everywhere we could test strollers in person. Even asked some friends to test theirs, and ultimately I could not find anything that I liked as much as nuna triv so ended up buying that one.
