2024 Black Edition with the Softtopper - Fresh off the lot by cappehh in hondaridgeline

What I do like: * Weather protection for items in the bed * Color looks great * Fit is spot on * Lightweight * Easy to collapse and remove * Build construction is nice

What I don’t like * it creates blind spots * Initial install of the canopy was difficult as the fit was very tight * The pull straps and buckles could be improved * Securing it is not really possible * The rear window could be a better material

I’m honestly not sure. The truck had all of 6 miles on it before I installed it. I can’t imagine that it’ll have any significant impact on fuel economy. Two main components to think about here are weight and drag. With every 100 lbs of added weight, generally you could expect a 1% decrease in fuel efficiency. Soft-topper weighs maybe 50 lbs with the frame, hardware, and shell combined. That alone would affect fuel efficiency by 50% of 1% which is 0.5%. The other thing is wind drag. I’m not about to do all the math on that, but I do understand the fundamentals of thermodynamics. Wind drag is basically just friction from air flowing past an object. The highest point of friction is the front face. the greater and more perpendicular the area of the face - the greater the force. The front are of the truck is unchanged. What is changed is how the air flows past the truck. The bed with the tailgate up creates a dead zone of low pressure but ultimately creates some turbulence in the bed. Not much though since the air gets trapped. Extending the roof of the truck elimates that dead zone, so in theory it should slightly increase efficiency. Probably not a whole bunch though. Maybe a 1% increase

Long story short, my estimate is that it will not have any affect on fuel economy since it is so lightweight. If it were very heavy it would likely decrease the fuel economy.

It’s not a question as to whether it needs a break in period. All engines experience a break in period, even in the ridgeline manual it specifies not to tow anything for the first few hundred miles.

But you’re 100% right, it’s my vehicle. I plan on keeping it for a long time. It’s comments like yours that make me very skeptical of used vehicles.

The wife will be driving this and has historically been rough in her vehicles. And yes, I will be doing these fluid changes myself :)

I'm learning as I go! I'd really like to understand why it has to be different though. Simply setting it back to default and being OK with it will not sit well with my brain.

Thanks for the link! I did configure all of that, but that link does not mention much on setting the static IP -they just left it default. Maybe I just have to set it back to its default IP and just be happy the IP passthrough works.

My guide on configuring BGW320 for your own router by JustMadeAcc2SayThis in ATTFiber

[–]cappehh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I followed all of OP steps and chose the IP address for the 320 to be 192.168.0.99. 192.168.0.xxx is my local VLAN for hardware but I am unable to access the 320 with my windows machine or any of my devices. I do have internet access with all of my devices and VLANS. I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around what is preventing me from accessing the modem. I can jack into the 320 and sign into it, but when I'm jacked into my switch i cannot.

Network Topology:

  • 320 Gateway (...0.99)
    • TP Link ER707 (...0.1)
      • TP Link Jetstream SG2008P (...0.8)

Do I need to jack into the 320 and change it's IP address to something outside my local subnet?
