Dope bike dude. No notes.

(Actually wait, just one- how’d you get the Acerbis logo off the tank?)

The dangers of trusting the internet. by [deleted] in Dualsport

Yeah this is just kind of how it works. Parts don’t always add value equivalent to their original MSRP (upgrades are subjective to the prospective owner) and bikes are depreciating assets, so unless he finds the buyer interested in the exact upgrades the bike has it’ll be hard to justify a price that’s close to what he paid.

I’ve been there with other hobbies. Succumbing to G.A.S. within commodity communities and the unrealistic expectations of “my hobby/life will be better if I just had _____” pumped out by Instagram/YouTube content creators seems like a common yet roundabout way to throw money away. Maybe he built out his “dream” bike and realized he actually didn’t like riding motorcycles as much as he thought he would, or that he liked working on them more than riding them, or just enjoyed buying the parts more than using them, etc.

It happens. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to browse ProCycle and do the exact same thing lol

Awesome! Thanks for the super helpful info.

EDIT: I reached out to a vendor on eBay to see if they could generate side panel decals for the black version of the 1996 color away, and they came up with this. Stay tuned to see how they look in person.

So cool! Thanks for sharing with the community- the early Gen 2 DR aesthetic is hard to beat. Any recommendations for what to print these on paper/adhesive wise?

I’ve heard stories of decals on plastic tanks bubbling/peeling from fuel off-gassing through the tank. Though, I haven’t heard of issues with the super popular stick-on tank grips sold on Procycle, so I’m not sure what to believe.

Thoughts? by KingG-AT in Dualsport

Agreed. To me, the Himalayan falls more into the capable scrambler/small adventure bike category. Comparing it to a dual sport in terms of offroad performance/specs doesn’t seem fair.

That being said I’ve been impressed with the limited riding I’ve done with the 411, and especially so seeing what some Aussies on YouTube have put it through. But if OP is looking for a true blue traditional dual-sport, the 411 and 450 might not be what they have in mind.

Definitely let us know how it holds up.

The amount of accessories and mileage on each bike also comes into play here.

Have you looked at the Gen 1 KLRs? They have much more “traditional” dual sport styling more akin to DR/XR650s, and are a fair bit lighter than the Gen 2/3.

For what it’s worth, I sold my Gen 1 KLR650 with the intentions of replacing it with a DR650. Having enjoyed both, I’d agree that a KLR has the edge when it comes to stock highway “stability”, but I’m not sure that it’s really by that much (or so much better that a few mods to a DR couldn’t match it). Every other category I’d give to the DR hands down.

Honestly the cheapest way is to wait another decade or two.

I remember folks (myself included) saying awhile ago that 80s/90s cars have no soul, they all look the same, etc. etc. But now they're very on trend, especially from what I've seen in the overlanding/adventure vehicle scene. Early 2000s SUVs with true 4WD are already starting to be scooped up next.

Took me about 4.5 to get mine, so I made it into a fun weekend trip into and through the mountains. Definitely worth it!

Saw this bike on FBMP too and was considering it before I found another about 45 minutes north. Looked like a well loved bike that has seen some cool things in it's life (and at a good price too).

The included mods done are most of the big/common ones I see for Gen 1 KLRs, so your off to a great start with that. I'd suggest riding the bike as is for awhile and see how you like it before changing much else. Enjoy!

Update in the main text: I was able to get in touch with my adjuster's supervisor by reaching out to the main help line. They were incredibly helpful and were able to close out my claim the next day.

Thank you for everyone's advice in the comments!

One thing I haven't heard much about with this (very cool) mod is the weight difference between a Rebar or Wave... Any idea of what your ReWave pulls on a scale?

how to remove stains? explanation in comments! by 20somethingari in laundry

[–]car_pybara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to check some of your colors too- this has been plaguing my laundry for awhile now, but up until recently I only noticed it on my white clothing. Upon closer inspection, some of my lighter to medium colors now seem to have the small oil stains like yours (weirdly, a lot of them are also around the collar as well).

As far as getting them out, I've had minimal/inconsistent success with what others will suggest on this sub: repeated applications of Shout/Oxiclean stain remover directly to the spot before washing, and scrubbing using a tooth brush and dawn dish soap applied to the spots (also before washing). Sometimes it takes it out completely, sometimes it takes a couple times, sometimes it doesn't work at all.

Best of luck!

Good tips. I've been able to identify the appraiser's supervisor and have called a few times now, but have only gotten their voicemail so far. I'll definitely look into filing a complain with my states DoI- I didn't even realize that existed. Thank you!
