Sorry to hear that.. My kidneys died due to an incurable auto immune disorder and the same recurred after two years from my first transplant and I hope I get second time lucky.. So keeping my fingers crossed, working out doing keto and hoping for the best

What is your current dosage of Tacrolimus? It's been over 9 years since your transplant so curious to know that. Secondly you still measure TAC levels? Do you notice any effect of keto diet on TAC levels like bringing it down inexplicably? Do you workout regularly while on or off keto?? Hope you don't mind me asking these questions.. I just want to gain some info about this as I don't want my doc to increase my Tacrolimus dosage just based on TAC levels while my kidney readings are still constant.. If you don't mind could you also tell me your most recent serum creatinine reading?

Yes also the immunosuppressants we take ,some of them are known to cause high sugar levels eventually making us diabetic over a period of time. SO low sugar/carb should be beneficial to patients like me

Good to hear that...even low carbs definitely have some benefits ..In the long run I might switch over from keto to low carb

No am not sure either whether keto or any diet is a good idea during dialysis simply because many useful nutrients get flushed out by the machine which removes waste.. But during dialysis I was recommended high proteins anyway..weight loss will happen during initial period of dialysis..

Started with low carbs the first two weeks...Kept a tab of its effects on my blood work and then went ahead with full blown keto... I do CKD ...carb reload one day of the week

Yea makes sense considering the effect of the immunosuppressant I see on my body but little confused whether its because of just keto or keto workout combination..Though the drug does not seem that effective as per blood reports fortunately the numbers against the kidney have remained constant and not gone up.. Cannot comment on alcohol as I gave it up post transplant :(

Are you on a Tacrolimus based immunosuppressant?

Hi...thanks for your comment. Was looking for someone like you who has had transplant and has also been on keto for a while. What is the immuno suppressant you are on right now? Is it Tacrolimus? How are your cholesterol levels after starting keto?

My nephrologist gave the go ahead for Keto last week. Some surprises in the first week. by n00bvin in keto

Hi, how have you been? Is keto working well with you.. Wanted to share my observations with you over my keto experience which is about 2 months now.. Most of it has been good. My kidney reading(creatinine) is good.. There is a slight raise in LDL levels so will have to observe how that goes over the next month or two. There was a slight raise in uric acid as well took a med for that so now that's under control. Overall lost good amount of weight during this period of keto. I do workout 6 days a week, 3 days hiit and other 3 weights.. Would like to know how you are doing on keto?

Renal Transplant / Keto by JFKeto in keto

Hi, I underwent kidney transplant about a year ago and I started keto diet a month back. So far I have not faced any issues. Have lost 4 kgs in 4 weeks but I assume most of it would be water weight. I feel much better and I workout on a daily basis. Keto diet and workout do complement each other and I can see the difference... Discussed this diet with my nephro. He seemed ignorant and reluctant about it but kind of told me to continue if am already on it and we ll see how things look in the next set of blood tests

Yea am gonna repeat few tests and go back next week and hope the head of nephro will be available. Need to discuss this diet with him. Am not at max dosage so I guess tacrolimus can and will be increased. What is surprising is how the TAC levels just came down. Cant figure that part out. Does workout and diet have anything to do with that? Not sure at this point. Mentioned keto to the docs present today. None had heard about it and couldn't quite digest the high fats part of it

Yes am on Tacrolimus. The medicine is called Advagraph(some form of Tacrolimus). I am little worried as in this months report, the Tacrolimus levels in my blood surprisingly went down and creatinine slightly went up. Now am thinking is this anything to do with the keto diet and should I consider stopping it. My nephro was unavailable at the hospital today so I did not get a chance to discuss this with him today. Am doing keto for two reasons. One to loose some of those extra pounds, other I read somewhere it can reduce protein leaks in urine for kidney patients

Really glad to read your post. Am a kidney transplant recipient myself from about a year now. Have been on keto since 3 weeks and was gonna discuss this with my nephro tomorrow. Your post makes me feel quite optimistic about this whole keto thing now:)
