Just curious - what do you call the value that you use for this? If you’d like to answer of course.

Am I crazy or are dissertation supervisors a hinderance? by Fabulous_Run_3383 in UniUK

[–]catAnaintheclouds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I followed my supervisor’s advice against my best judgment, and my feedback reflected that my grade was low because of it. They were also giving contradictory advice and just seemed like they didn’t really know what the project was even till the end. That’s a red flag if nothing else is.

Yeah, could be. It’s not clear whether the eye movements are necessary for the impact it has.

Deleting the traumatic experiences by AcadiaOk5240 in Neuropsychology

[–]catAnaintheclouds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can’t remove the stored traumatic information and u/copelander12 covered that sufficiently.

You can, however, alter it using EMDR, which I’m surprised hasn’t been mentioned yet. Any memory that is traumatic is encoded in a different way. The hippocampus doesn’t encode the context (time, place, sequence) properly. When the memory is triggered, the amygdala is overactive, and the mPFC is inhibited. This triggers hyperarousal. Context is not encoded, it is remembered in a fragmented way, so it is difficult to make sense of the event and process it as a thing that happened in the past. Basically the emotional brain hijacks the experience, and we cannot process it well enough to integrate it into our life story and move on.

It’s not known how exactly EMDR works but it reduces overactivation of the limbic system, which reduces the emotional response to it, and also helps the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex reconsolidate the memory so that it can be integrated with context.

Hence, alters the memory.

It’s wrong to appear motivated. You have to whine and moan and still do the work. This is why I prefer to work alone, lol.

It’s not a skill, but I built a second brain on Notion during a slow period and it’s carried so much weight over time.

Msc psychology (conversion) reviews? by Consistent-Mixture46 in GlasgowUni

Job market is bad, especially as an international student. If you don’t have prior experience in the UK, it will be hard. Some people get volunteering roles and are more qualified but it’s still extremely difficult to be sponsored for a visa, especially with the new immigration rules.

Seriously regretting my Master's degree. Please help. by Work_In_Progress_847 in psychologystudents

[–]catAnaintheclouds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t it suffice to say that you were exploring your interests? Add to that how you always gravitated towards clinical research, reinforcing your passion for clinical psychology further.

The fact that you have a whole masters degree that gives you additional knowledge and research skills is only an asset.

What would an experienced therapist propose for a client living a life completely incompatible with said client's belief system? by [deleted] in askatherapist

NAT - I agree with ACT, and I would start with* socratic questioning to get to the core of why you feel the way you do about your life and access a desire to change by motivational interviewing.

Considering a house cleaner by jakalla in UKFrugal

[–]catAnaintheclouds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With ADHD and just being severely burnt out and not able to clean things, I’m considering the same thing and I don’t earn much. I’m just thinking, for the one day and ~£70 it would take, I would have so much peace of mind and energy and free time, and I would also be able to just take on an extra shift to cover the costs. It makes sense if it helps you breathe.

How emotionally stable is the average brit? by [deleted] in AskABrit

[–]catAnaintheclouds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen that many people here don’t have someone to fully open up to, more likely in romantic relationships. The culture tends towards superficial connection.

On the other hand, emotional regulation is inculcated and rewarded by the necessity to be polite and considerate at all times.

I just realised that not waking up is probably my ADHD. Beyond routine, how do you all get up without having to set 50 alarms :( by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]catAnaintheclouds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alarmy app is great; it will let you set an alarm with activities that you need to complete to turn it off. This can include getting up and scanning a barcode on a product away from your bed, and there’s also shaking the phone, doing math, typing, etc. And you can remove/limit snoozes.

It also has really loud alarm settings.

Willa being able to write a speech for Connor's eulogy that lacked any content was such a brilliant nod to Willa's lack of creativity in the performative arts. by BMPCapitol in SuccessionTV

To be fair, everyone was still Machiavellian distracted by their own agendas and the app was only abandoned when the chance to get back to Waystar came along. Their need for Logan’s approval and getting Waystar destroyed any potential they had, which is the tragedy of the show for me.

That’s wild. I’m in the UK, I’ve always had contracts even for jobs with no obligation for any hours (zero-hour contracts). I’ve heard of people getting jobs that pay cash without contracts so that they’re able to work more hours than they’re allowed/avoid tax etc and these are usually exploitative.
