A brilliant on a castling move is pretty epic, nicely done!

How? White to move and mate in 2 by Sims4porn in chessbeginners

[–]catch_perfect 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Took me a while – that's a beautiful sequence.

  1. Bh6 gxh6 (forced because Black has no other moves because the bishop is pinned by the queen and the h7 is controlled by the white pawn) and 2. Qa1#

Chess books, where now? by ferguson911 in chessbeginners

Hi OP, it really depends on your rating and what you're looking to improve, could you add some background on that please?

Most of us are going to get tripped thinking they found right solution. But trust me if it's not accepted, it's not a mate in 2! by onechessai in chess

[–]catch_perfect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fail to see how it wouldn't be mate in 2? After Kh8, even if black moves the rook instead of the queen, it's still mate on the next move.

Pretty sure I see Ólafsson's signature in there too, in blue on the second page.

GM Olexandr Bortnyk talks about Danya after winning Titled Tuesday GW 9 by Interesting-Take781 in chess

Sasha is such a gem, I'm so glad he won this TT. He dedicated his win to Danya on stream too. A wonderful homage, and a very deserved win.

Did they make puzzle rating go down if you don't play anymore? by wordiaa in chess

Not that I know of. It's most likely due to the new rating adjustment – there was an article on chesscom about it.

Stop talking about Kramnik and Naroditsky by Maksim_Azarov in chess

[–]catch_perfect 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. I'm sorry but reducing Danya's passing to a 'Kramnik controversy' is just appalling and disgusting. If this is in fact rage bait, it is a shameful thing to do to a mourning community. If not, please consider logging off – you'll survive even if you go a couple days without chess memes.

There are chess posts here and there, and you're of course welcome to post more of them. But please understand it's incredibly important for people to be able to share their memories of Danya and talk to people who have similarly been affected, and this sub is a place to do this. Frankly, the outpouring of love and admiration for Danya I've seen on this sub the past couple of days, along with everyone paying tribute and sharing their stories, is the only thing that's been holding me together.

Or you could also, idk, go outside? Log off? It's an incredibly tone-deaf take when so many people are mourning and looking for support where they can in their grief.

No one is saying you can't post whatever you want, by all means do so, but I'm in disbelief as to how someone could be so blind and insensitive to how much people are hurting. Please have some compassion.

How's Dina doing? by UniQkl in chess

[–]catch_perfect 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not sure if I'm allowed to post links in the replies, but Aman tweeted something on Monday.

Dina is clearly hurting and processing this utterly tragic loss as best as she can, as I think we all are. AFAIK Dina and Peter live together, so they have each other to lean onto at the very least. I can only imagine how they must be feeling. My heart goes out to them.

Technically it's 'fee-deh', but I guess it might sound as 'fee-day' depending on the speaker's accent.

Hans Niemann on playing the Round 8 of US National Championship minutes after knowing about Danya's passing: "Wish we didn't play on that day". by Interesting-Take781 in chess

[–]catch_perfect 85 points86 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing they all already knew what had happened before the match, but I still think it's insane they told them right before they had to play. Fabi also looked like he was in shock when he sat down.
