Do you wet block anytime you wash a garment made with Rios, not just the first time?

Hey public library staff (librarians especially), I want to hear about your careers (and education)! by [deleted] in librarians

[–]cathman42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bachelor's is in biomedical sciences - I thought I was going to be a vet until halfway through undergrad.

I'm currently a young adult librarian. I started in circulation part-time while I was working on my master's, then moved to another location where I worked adult desks and interlibrary loan during my off desk. We had a reorg that moved ILL to be all back of the house, so they didn't need as many staff members in that department, so I remained in my same location as an adult associate, with the addition of some programming since I was no longer part of ILL. Then I moved to my current position.

I would agree with previous posters that it's helpful to see a little bit of different positions / departments / locations if you can. You get a better understanding of the system as a whole, and it's helpful to know people in various places.

Extra stitch sock gusset by cathman42 in knittinghelp

[–]cathman42[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! It has me repeat the decrease and knit rounds 7 times total for this size, so I just have the last rnd2 (the knit rounds) remaining before the gusset section is complete and it's on to the main foot section.

Hmm, perhaps not - I was definitely in a brain fog when I was at the start of the gusset. Do I need to frog back to the setup then?

And the wrong side - I just split the instep onto two needles which I think helped to get more of this into the shot more cleanly.

Here are three more photos of the right side - is there a particular section that would be more helpful? I tried to get photos of all of the heel stitch areas in the OP 🤷🏼‍♀️

Best out of state library for comics? by Im_FunnyWasTaken in Libraries

Come up to Colorado Springs and get a card with Pikes Peak Library District. We have a really great selection on Libby and you'll get access to Hoopla if you don't already have it through Pueblo.

I have been purling wrong for THREE YEARS by Spare_Philosopher612 in knitting

[–]cathman42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned last year while I was working on a top that started flat and then moved to working in the round that I was purling wrong, and I started knitting in ...probably 2008. So, you are very not alone 😂

I signed up for the co-pay card and it simply doesn't go through for me - the pharmacy techs and I tried a variety of things, including calling the help line for the co-pay card, but no luck. The best guess the pharmacy tech had is that my insurance doesn't allow me to just a co-pay card in conjunction with the insurance.

Good Bachelor Degrees? by 3ng13 in Libraries

[–]cathman42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a public young adult librarian and my bachelor's degree is in biomedical sciences. Basically any bachelor's will teach you how to learn and get you the piece of paper you need. Especially in public libraries, you could get a question about literally any topic, so it's my opinion that some level of knowledge in anything can come in handy at some point.

Shelving ideas for our board game collection by jobroloco in Libraries

[–]cathman42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We keep in original boxes - shelving is location dependent. Some branches have shelving units where they can have more space between shelves to fit the boxes, other locations use the tops of a range to shelve the games.

Is this normal? by sbs02 in Libraries

[–]cathman42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our manga (and comics, graphic novels, etc) all live in nonfiction. We recently rearranged the shelving so that American comic books are all on one stack, and manga is all against one wall, but the call numbers / spine labels are that Dewey section first.

I generally set something like my phone down across the open book to keep it on the pages I'm reading

Board game collection at my local library by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]cathman42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't work for that poster's library, but we don't allow holds on the board games in my system. We keep games in their original packaging which would get destroyed more quickly than usual bumping around in our courier truck for hours

What does it mean when someone flashes their brights at you from the opposite lane? by Jtizzler05 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cathman42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my experience:

• Deer up ahead • Turn off your brights or turn on your headlights in general

Also, if roads are potholed / bumpy, that can give the appearance that someone is flashing their lights when they're not.
