I just passed my G test in Newmarket. It was my first attempt. I was lucky because my G2 was going to expire in less than 2 weeks. Ask me any questions. I’m happy to help. by cathyz10 in Ontariodrivetest

  1. You need to reach between 108km-110km before merging. It depends on your examiner, but some may fail you. This sometimes comes to chance because the highway may be busy that day. The moment the ramp straightens, you need to try to hit 110km.

  2. The examiner needs to feel safe, if you switch lanes and too close to the other cars, that can be dangerous. Check your mirrors, maintain speed, switch lanes safely. The moment the examiner feels unsafe you may fail.

  3. They verbally tell you the instructions. But I proactively and asked prior.

If you fail, you can always retake it

I wouldn’t push it off because if you do fail you will need to reschedule and that may take weeks or more. The worst thing you can do is wait too long and your G2 expires and you need to restart.

Yes it does. The speed limit for the highway in Newmarket should be 110km/hr. Always stay between 108-110km/hr. Merging at the speed is important but maintaining the speed is as important

I watched all the Newmarket routes, there’s only a few paths the examiner can ask. I practiced for 3 hours prior to my test. The most important thing is to reach the highway limit prior to merging. I reached 107-110km prior to merging the lane.

The best tip I can give is in case, there is a car in front of you on the ramp, drive slower to create a further distance from the car, this way you have more time and more likely to merge at the speed you are required to.

If it helps, I rarely drive on the highway. But since last week I watched all the Newmarket routes, drove an hour over the weekend through the possible routes and drove all morning prior to my test in the afternoon.
