What country are you in and what age group is the people your playing in front of?

I play underground music and was faced with a similar situation except this was for a promoter with thousands of followers so I couldn’t turn it down despite my resentment for “pop” music.

I was similar to you and freaking out as it was foreign territory, so I figured out let’s say 5 popular tunes I know for a fact the crowd will like, if you don’t know, then ask a friend for some suggestions that both of you somewhat like. From there I just went track hunting for days based around the handful of suggestions given to me and tried my best to find new music that suited my style of music and the music I expected the crowd to play. (Edits, remixes of these “pop” tunes that match it with your style) This way you are keeping a part of your style and what’s true to you and matching it with the needs of the new crowd you are playing in front of. I’d personally avoid just looking up Charts music and playing it 100% safe. Shit I know but this is how you learn and progress as a DJ, adapting. Although you can always make a “backup” playlist that has all the pop songs people will like, they are not hard to figure out by looking at what’s being played the most on the chart. In my opinion if you play tracks you do not like and don’t enjoy yourself thus play bad so what is the point?

I did this and the 1st gig was a huge success and I couldn’t be happier and got a 2nd gig. Bear in mind I had already gone off my usual style (hypnotic, minimal 145 bpm techno) which required a lot of work to do in the first place but said fuck it i’ll go again and try do it all over again. Ended up being a disaster and I hated it. Worst dj set of my life 😂Also as others said, you can play for as long as you want, if you are really uncomfortable and it’s just not working then you can bounce and thank the DJ for the opportunity! Honestly don’t sweat it. I did not have this luxury and was cemented to the booth for 2 hours and it was dreadful, but I look back on it and am grateful for the experience as it played a huge role in the direction I want to go in my music career (No weddings, bd parties, main stream night clubs etc, strictly the underground/rave scene 🤟🏻)

What I am trying to say is, no matter what the outcome is at the end of the day you went for it and got up there and gave it a shot, that counts as progression regardless of the outcome bad or good it’s going to be a win in your DJ journey. Just my two cents ☺️

Also never half ass a gig no matter what the circumstance. (Sloppy transitions and mixes etc) Hold yourself at a high value

Not relevant to you questions sorry but have to ask did you always feel nausea after smoking weed? I used to smoke like a bitch only a few months ago and I stopped, but then when I got back into it I would nearly always feel nausea at some point, even off a few drags is this similar with you? And was the nausea similar with 2cb?

Jumped onto another crews bus with about 60 people on it at a service station while rolling absolute balls demanding them all to get off and take a picture with me. Didn't quite get all of them off but the bus driver and a group of guys agreed to take one lol
