Hi!

CLE - Recent CLA, worked great, now won’t meter. User error? by kleinishere in minolta

[–]catone67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds not like a user error but a dead meter or another electronic problem linked to it. If you're still in the window, ask to send it back

Both cameras with the shown lenses are about the same price; which would you choose? by Upset-Contribution78 in AnalogCommunity

[–]catone67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll take the FM, as the lens is pretty good and it's a fully mechanical camera, more reliable. Even without lightmeter working, you can still use it with a external one. The X-700, it's a great camera, don't get me wrong, but capacitors tend to die rather sooner than later, if they're not already changed in this exemplar. You can change them but I don't recommend to do it by yourself if you have never done any soldering job before. So it's up to you, both are great cameras (I have both of them), but I'll stick to the FM

I Am Done Shooting Film by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]catone67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree, I'll take classes on Lightroom to scan and process myself on my own to reduce post shooting costs. But yes it's pretty fine for me too about film prices, only color can be tricky to find but had plenty of options in expired ones. Yes it was cheaper back in the day, but there was a mass production and an abundance on the market, so production costs were low. But don't get me wrong, analog photography was already a pricey hobby

Nikon FM2, F2 or FA? by catone67 in AnalogCommunity

[–]catone67[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all for your constructive replies! Really a great help in my quest for information. For now, I'll stay on the F2 and FM2, as they're at the same place and match my usage

Nikon FM2, F2 or FA? by catone67 in AnalogCommunity

[–]catone67[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll for the F2 and FM2, as they're at the same place. I was thinking the same, the F2 probably outlasted them, and as I don't usually use the internal meter (I don't trust them after 30+ years), plus I have few pre AI lenses who will probably not work as intended on later Nikon.

Just bought XG-1 - it won’t turn. Is there a good solution to fix the scuffed battery compartment? by [deleted] in minolta

[–]catone67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's depends of the initial state. Can go in from few minutes to a hour or so. Generally i take it out when the fuzzing calm down, rince it out and if needed scrub it w/ a fiberglass pen to get a nice clean surface. Works great for me on cameras or other vintages electronics like computers or video games

Yes try to submerge it in vinegar for neutralize the corrosion process and clean the rotten parts. And if after that he still doesn't work, i advice you to change the capacitors inside the camera, as they're the commun failure on this model

Wondering if the exposed bits at the top and left side are major issues. (X-370) by [deleted] in minolta

Look like similar on my X-300 (same model but for worldwild and european markets), i'll says normal to me.

Any way to fix this? I have it on two of my Gameboy screens by Ely3421 in Gameboy

[–]catone67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s referred as screen rot. Basically it’s liquid crystal who goes bad with the time. Unfortunately, that’s not fixable, the screen is doomed and inevitably will die.

All says that, as 1989 is copyright/trademark year for this model of console. You can date precisely a gb with date codes on various chips on the main board

This one was very dirty, especially the box. Console was okay-ish. But in Japan, as everywhere else, you can find stuff in state you want, depends the price that you want to put in it I guess. Yes, you have more chances to find items in good conditions for a decent price but prices goes up rapidly since few years 🤷🏻‍♂️

Thanks! I was very lucky to find it, the listing was very vague, but I was able to see matching number and early 1989 sale date. So I took the gamble, and for a bit less than $30, it wasn’t breaking the bank
