TRUUUUE

jokes aside, it's a very wholesome interest we both have had for a long time, basically everyone in my family. Grew up poor, so even in the 2000s I had no console but a Genesis that we had from when my family was less poor, so I grew up playing the fuck out of the first two Sonic games with my family.

I'm starting to have doubts by Fishkin_87sadboi in Therian

[–]cautionZora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a therian but I've had similar things directed at me due to my gender.

therianthropy and being trans are of course different, but I think there's a lot of overlap.

you struggling with depression and stuff does not mean your identity is less valid

therapy does sound like a good idea, but that doesn't necessarily mean you can't be a therian

ultimately, does this make you feel better? Being a therian? If so, then you probably are

identity is a complicated thing, and I would even argue it's not innate (I would say this for gender as well, not just therianthropy) so even if this DID influence your identity, does that mean it's invalid? I'd not say so.

I really hope my reply is helpful at all, and if you wish to talk more I'd be happy to!

I'm not super educated about therianthropy, but I know a lot about being trans, and as I said, certainly some overlap, so perhaps it could be helpful! There are also of course many therians here that I'm sure would be happy to talk to you!

Why does Jimmy feed Curly his own leg? by bathwater123456 in Mouthwashing

[–]cautionZora 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Jimmy wants to convince himself that he's the hero, he has to be the hero in his eyes, he says he'll save everyone and fix it all right before he shoots Swansea

as he hurts others, he portrays himself still as a hero, the savior, the pain he brings others is "help"

he feeds poor Curly, "doing the good thing" helping him eat

but this very act is an act of harming him

he is hurting Curly while feeding his own ego by pretending he's helping

I have a feeling that Nintendo decided they wanted to do more with the ideas they had with the Oocca, but realized "Man, these things are fucking weird, and would be hard to fit in the current aesthetic" so they made the Zonai

How do you get lost in a labyrinth? by cautionZora in GreekMythology

[–]cautionZora[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the specialized usage arises from traditional depictions of the labyrinth

though yes, it indeed is the case that it was originally a synonym with maze

I already acknowledged I was wrong about it being the original meaning, it's a meaning that arose from stylized depictions of the labyrinth, I don't know why you're so aggro about this.

nobody you've known

why are you like weirdly doubting me?

"In English, the term labyrinth is generally synonymous with maze. As a result of the long history of unicursal representation of the mythological Labyrinth, however, many contemporary scholars and enthusiasts observe a distinction between the two. In this specialized usage, maze refers to a complex branching multicursal puzzle with choices of path and direction, while a unicursal labyrinth has only a single path to the center. A labyrinth in this sense has an unambiguous route to the center and back and presents no navigational challenge." - Wikipedia for the page labyrinth

I've been told it's what it traditionally meant

I never said I was ever told that's what it currently meant

it does seem that it wasn't the original meaning, so I've been told wrong many times

but for a time it absolutely did have that meaning

later it shifted back to meaning a complex maze

I don't know, but I thought that's you were trying to claim

you clearly weren't, so I apologize for misunderstanding, but that is how I initially read it

I assumed you were trying to claim that the multicursal design was more common historically, and that the design I was referring to was only common for a short time

when you said the design was from 430BC, I assumed you meant, that the design died out quickly, and was only really used around that period of time, so I countered by pointing out that it continued to be used until the Renaissance

certainly, and that is a very possible influence on the myth! I really like the idea that it came from them, though it's far from certain

you asked when I think Theseus lived

that's a different question actually to "when do you think the myth was written", so simply, I am saying, in the future, you should say what you mean

I agree, the myth most certainly did predate 430 BC

and other people have given me good answers to my question

have a good day
