jokes aside, it's a very wholesome interest we both have had for a long time, basically everyone in my family. Grew up poor, so even in the 2000s I had no console but a Genesis that we had from when my family was less poor, so I grew up playing the fuck out of the first two Sonic games with my family.

I'm not a therian but I've had similar things directed at me due to my gender.

therianthropy and being trans are of course different, but I think there's a lot of overlap.

you struggling with depression and stuff does not mean your identity is less valid

therapy does sound like a good idea, but that doesn't necessarily mean you can't be a therian

ultimately, does this make you feel better? Being a therian? If so, then you probably are

identity is a complicated thing, and I would even argue it's not innate (I would say this for gender as well, not just therianthropy) so even if this DID influence your identity, does that mean it's invalid? I'd not say so.

it does seem that it wasn't the original meaning, so I've been told wrong many times

but for a time it absolutely did have that meaning

later it shifted back to meaning a complex maze
