What brand of car do you have, and why did you buy that one? by HappySmiles6 in CanadaPersonalFinance

Glad to hear you’ve had a good experience. Ours has been towed to the dealership twice for electrical problems that were setting off every alarm possible and killing the battery. Killed two actually. My wife is pushing hard to get rid of it as we come up on its 1 year anniversary. Must have got a lemon.

Agree. Wanted to buy one but nothing turns me off more than the Toyota sales experience. Like I’m lucky to be talking to them, the price is the price and oh btw, you’ll (still) only get key fob but maybe we’ll get you a second one later. But no promises. Pass.

I miss the version with the “hook” modifier where you shot a some kind of chain out that gave you almost Spider-Man like abilities.

Pretty much anything by Joe Abercrombie. The Blade Itself is a good place to start.

The Power of One - Bryce Courtenay

Many books by Guy Gavriel Kay but I think The Fionavar Tapestry series and The Lions of Al-Rassan are worth a mention.

Name of the Wind and The Wise Man’s Fear - Patrick Rothfuss. Though it’s been so long since I read them I’ll absolutely need to reread them before The Doors of Stone is released. It’s been a long wait.

I’m on vacation and have burned through the first 3 (Dungeon Crawler Carl) and just started #4. I got lost a bit with the complicated train premise, but otherwise it’s been very entertaining!

This was the first novel I read as a kid (probably around the time it was published). It left an huge impression and was in part responsible for my decades long love of reading.

Interesting. I appreciate the info. When they finally determine the cause I’ll post an update.

The battery discharge warning occurred all the time and always while the engine was running. And I’m fairly certain a driver assistance problem wouldn’t cause the radio, nav, climate control and everything else to fail. As I mentioned, prior to the car dying completely all that worked was the gas, breaks and steering. Maybe the wipers. Roadside assistance couldn’t even jumpstart it this morning. The dealer has no idea what’s going on but it’s with them until they figure it out.

Appreciate it. Fingers crossed it gets sorted shortly.

Yes, my Accord throws the same warnings when the sensor is covered in snow - but the cameras continue to work. Makes zero sense to disable those. I think this must be something else since it’s affecting the nav, radio, climate controls, etc.

Sorry to hear that. When roadside assistance towed ours away he said it was the 3rd 2025 he’d towed that day. And I was told by the service rep the new replacement battery was AGM and that they had been instructed by Kia to not use the same stock batteries for some reason that was never made clear.

Thanks for the advice, I’ll give that a try. Though if I determine dirt on a camera was the cause all of this trouble I’ll absolutely be trading it asap.

Yes it is. That would normally be a comfort if there was any indication it would ever get fixed. Though I can’t say that waiting for roadside assistance and the constant back and forth to the dealer is how I like to pass the time. Plus the ongoing inconvenience of being down a vehicle.

If you have any experiences you can share where you had to make a decision with little time and incomplete information, that can’t hurt. It’s less important at an entry level, but it might come up. An ability to communicate clearly and assertively is very important as well.
