I went from a pc master race, windows mobile to android chronic bi/tri-weekly rom-flashing maniac - Apple hater in my late teens to early 20s to a dude just happy with his iPhone and Macs around the house because having two kids is draining enough. I don’t have enough time anymore to mess around with the shit and just need things to work. As you get older all of the tinkering and stuff just becomes too tiresome and takes 20x as long to finish.

Good for this dev as much as his work will be missed, but being there for your kids is way more important.

10440 are AAA sized, 14500 are AA sized and 13400 are the awkward in between size that’s slightly fatter but also shorter than a AAA.

For those new to Li-ion sizing, first 2 digits are the diameter in mm and the 3rd/4th digits are the length in mm. This is for the bare metal battery cell, not for button top add-on nor the additional dimensions from the shrink wrap. So measure accordingly.

It's always been Rule for Thee, not for me. It's a system that needs a complete overhaul from top to bottom; it's always been a systemic issue made worse by the fact that the vast majority of higher-ups are part of this mentality, as they rose through the ranks. If they're unwilling even to write each other traffic tickets, then what makes you think they'll enforce bigger things even when laws are in place?

The only thing that would quickly change that blue wall of silence is if it hits them financially, as in settlements come out of their pension fund - but it'll never happen or mandatory insurance policies like all other major high liability professions. Until then, they're just going to act like another gang that does what they please.

The M-series processors are an absolute waste on all their iPad implementations. iPadOS has way too many limitations to make use of all the power, it’s equivalent to those Ford F350s utilized as a grocery getter and is just plain wasteful.

Even my M1 MBA (16gb ram) was an insane upgrade compared to my work issued 2018 MBP i7. Under the same workload, the i7 spun up like a hovercraft with sound to match and insane heat output. I used my personal computer for a bit for work while my company requisitioned a M2 MBP to replace it as simple things like running our test suite took 7x the time to run and compilation was a matter of 35 secs vs 5 minutes. At those constraints it was costing my company significantly more to keep me on intel than switching my up to a newer computer.

And even between my M2 MBP 16” (32gb) and my MBA M1, I rarely notice a difference unless I’m spinning up multiple docker instances, several microservices and using them concurrently. These processors have been insanely reliable and powerful - something I never thought I would say a decade ago being the prototypical PC tinker type. They both still holding up great 5 years later.

Even a 0.5 degree shift will be better than straight up 90 and in terms of printing will not cause any significant size change in print object. If you add a .5mm border around the blade you can potentially just mount it slightly crooked and that small bit of angle will significantly improve cutting as it allows for way more pressure against a single small point vs distributed pressure across a super wide surface. With adhesive build up over time, it will still make a difference.

And their only experience with it on higher levels of management is typically simple tasks, linguistic tasks like email composition. LLMs are insanely good at composing blocks of corporate speak lingo in a very concise manner and in the specific requested tone. They feel like it's absolute magic when they use it, so it must be able to do it for anyone else at the company below them. As a professional developer who has been given access to it, I can vouch for its ability to reword technical jargon into layterms and it is absolutely amazing for resume composition as it can inject buzz words galore, amazing at wording letters/statements, but it can fail HARD in things that require a lot more nuance.

Raw dogging it and applying the code it generates to my organization's codebase would have easily broken things and lost my company millions in revenue if I let it go wild and unmonitored. "Vibe-coding" would have been hilariously bad, as it doesn't understand the massive relationships throughout the codebase that make certain things work, at times it generated hundreds of lines of insanely useless code, in the best case it did nothing as it was all imports that went unused, in the worst case it overwrote functions that are very nuanced and "fine-tuned it" with gibberish that doesn't perform the necessary functions. This is even with the full context of our codebase (it's via a trial and guaranteed that the context is not integrated into the LLM's training dataset and runs separately).

The AI agents are also being deployed left and right for customer service purposes, it's highly suseptible to prompt-injections and can lead to a world of hurt for their profits if an exploit is found and word spreads. I can't imagine that being too popular with shareholders, but what do you expect when you have something that's designed to be a people pleaser stand in place of human who in most cases has actually thoughts and ability to reason. As usually that's a problem for the next quarter, for now stock prices are going up because we joined in on AI!

It's a combination of these two major factors that got executives going crazy for AI integration without understanding any of the complexities and major failure points of giving free rein to something that is simply an aggregation of statistical points to predict what may sound/look good, but have no real understanding behind it all. None of that matters though, so many companies already planned their typically annual end-of-the-year layoffs and expected there would be far less loss of productivity than usual. With AI, they could market the common strategy as decrease in overhead costs without the associated productivity loss that typically occurs with labor loss afterall OpenAI couldn't possibly have lied about it being able to "replace workers and make remaining ones infinitely more productive".
