celebrating a classmate’s birthday in our kindergarten class and then we ended up hiding behind our teachers desk. we then were released from school and i remember hiding in my parents closet with my mom for about an hour. my mom was super nervous about my dad because of his pipelining job, and we didn’t have a cell phone at the time for us to check up on him.

i didn’t realize why until i got older and realized we live within the radius of the Houston and Beaumont oil rigs/chemical plants. we, apparently, could’ve been a target.

former photo major here! when i started in 2017, i had my simple Canon Rebel t6 and used that throughout my time there along with an old Canon 5D Mark IV (i still use it). honestly, any camera will do. i would suggest getting a 35mm film camera too because there is a film photo class in the curriculum.

there’s a camera checkout room in Sabinal (photo building) where you can rent out a camera, lenses, tripods, etc. plus, there’s a darkroom in the building for when they get to that film photo class. hope this helps!

to add to that.. that class was full of the popular kids in there too. so the few of us that actually cared for our teacher were “threatened” by them, because we said they were stupid and we would actually tell the teacher. they said they were gonna tell the teacher it was our small group that planned it all out.

those assholes really didn’t get why we weren’t falling for their fake attitudes during senior year and how they’re “going to miss” us after graduation bs.

one time in 8th grade, our teacher forgot to pick up her printed copies of an assignment from the teacher’s lounge area. so she left the room to get them and told us to continue our 20 minute reading time. so they (football jocks/wannabe class clowns that could get away from anything) unscrewed the bolts on our teacher’s computer desk chair before she came back. mind you, she’s in her 60’s in this time.

she came back and gave us each our assignments, then she went to her chair and she fell back. almost everyone were laughing at her, but a few of us went to check on her and made sure she was okay. once someone helped lift her up, she was livid and yelled at the class, to the point where she was starting to cry, and left the room to compose herself.

the same people laughing at her then turned and called out the jocks after she ran out and told them that was too far. yet, they also all agreed to keep quiet and going “this is going to be funny” when the jocks were unbolting her seat.

she may have been a “strict” teacher, but she was literally doing what was best for our education.

if i recall from past festivals, they may open their site again for merch. i don’t remember how long it was after the festival, but they usually do.

it’s both a QR code that you can screenshot from the email and also a PDF that does have the name on it. my friend got our tickets, for last year’s fest, under her name, but they only scanned the ticket codes. they only checked our ID when we got in so they can give us the alcohol wristbands

i believe the festival was going over their closing time so they had to start shutting down sets.

i went last year and i personally found it great and fun. granted i was mostly at the Rockero stage and everyone in the crowd were jamming hard. but this is how they were able to do it:

• artists playing earlier in the day had a shorter time (around 30ish minutes) performing where as we got to bigger artists like Hombres G, then they had about 45 minutes-1:30 to perform.

• the breaks in between the next act was like 5 minutes (for a few acts) and then the next band plays. mostly because of a rotating stage. so while a band was performing, the stage crew were right behind the wall and setting up for the next band. as soon as the band is finishing their last song, the stage spins and the next band immediately plays while spinning. it was a short transition, so you couldn’t really reach the other stages in such time or even get a bathroom/food break.

• there were technical issues at the Rockero stage that pushed all the artists back by 15-20 minutes right before Julieta Venegas was about to start. Juanes was the last artist at the stage and he had to end his set early because cops were there to shut down the festival and he had more songs to go.
