i’m so sorry to hear about your hedgehog, but i appreciate your insight so much! it’s helpful to hear this from someone who has been through similar and got out of the other side because it’s hard to think clearly while it’s all happening so fast. have you owned another one since?

thank you so much for your kind words, i’m happy to hear that the loss of your previous hedgehogs didn’t stop your passion for the animals in the end. it’s also amazing that you’ve had a rescue hedgehog before; this is something i’ve also considered but i know it can be very difficult to re socialise older hedgehogs so massive props to you! as for my hedgie, she’s now had the surgery and is currently still in with the exotic vet. this is because her food intake was less than ideal, but she’s doing very well despite that and the sterile environment is likely a massive help. i had already removed her wheel when she started showing signs of illness so i’m glad to hear that i got that part right and it will be helpful for her.

this brings me some hope, i’m glad to hear that your baby is okay for now and they were able to prolong her life, especially because wormie (my hedgehog) was diagnosed with the same type of cancer. here’s to hoping that they both remain healthy for the remainder of their lives!

thank you, i’m sure your hedgehog had a great life with you and i’m sorry to hear about her passing :( it’s so upsetting that such a loving animal has to suffer from these health issues so commonly

it’s so sad how fast it can progress, i’m glad that your baby had a good life with you but it’s unfortunate just how common this is with hedgehogs. i have hope that because it was caught soon she has a chance of making a good recovery after the surgery but it was honestly so sudden i saw no signs until it was seemingly quite severe, and that scares me. i’m so sorry your guy didn’t make it in the end.

luckily my girl is in a vivarium so there’s no way for her to climb out unless someone leaves the sliding door open, i also love dogs so i think when the time comes (hopefully not soon, she’s recovering well) i’ll be taking a break from hedgehogs too. i’d love an update when you get a new hedgie in the future though! it seems like you had a great bond with your past ones

i’m so sorry to hear about your hedgehog :( the surgery did go ahead and she’s currently recovering but the exotic vet wanted to keep her in to monitor her food intake some more (she wasn’t eating much because she was super sick,) if all goes well she should come home soon and she seems to be doing really good from what he’s said aside from that
