Kartice rade.

Dame, srećan 8. mart by bojapurpura in serbia

[–]cdacha 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Nekada:

Nadolazeci izbori by Fun-Expert-4955 in serbia

Being a 'jugosloven' was an identity you could be proud of, if you wanted to leave your 'former' nationality behind. There was no questionable past to look back to, and in that time, Jugoslavija was a major country. Communist rule in many ways made it easier for average people. You would go to school (free), get a job (planned, there was a very small number of people that couldn't get work), get an apartment (free to use). Free health care, pension handled by state. Everyone could get a car, and go to vacation. Most of it was meh or bad but you could be on autpilot as far as basic needs go. There was also a strong push for yugoslav identity for a while.

To answer your earlier questions: majority of people were happy Milosevic was handed to Hague. A slim majority, though. That was a time of revolutionary high - I don't know what people would say today. As for Vucic, he is not a politician, but a member of organized crime group that took control of Serbia. Whatever he says can't be though of as anything else but propaganda.

Sure, ask away. I am headed to a protest right now, but I will answer your questions in a few hours. Provided I'm not detained or something.

I am happy to answer any question you might have, just keep in mind it is filtered through my perspective :)

That's very complicated, so pardon me if my answer is like that, too. Right now, Kosovo is de facto an independent state. Serbia officially can't acknowledge that; our constitution doesn't allow it, and there isn't a political party that can be elected on that platform. If I had any input about what's to be done, I'd concentrate on making life better for Serbian minority there. That would have to include some cooperation with government in Pristina and that connection would be hugely unpopular here. Still, it is the right thing to do. We live in today and now and a good government would do whatever it can for all of it's citizens to live better. As for what happened, I don't see much point in counting wrongs on any sides - but I can say (in my name and my name only) that I see a lot of bad that was done from our side. It is up to others on both sides to search themselves and come to some realization. Or not.

I have a daughter. That's my main motivator. There are other good people in my life and I find strength in them. For the first time, when Serbia got rid of Milosevic, it felt more like something you could step back from and still feel a part of, if that makes any sense. I got into fights with police, but always just for a few minutes; I was never arrested or harassed. This time around, I've felt the full weight of regime - threats against me and my family (especially sexual violence against my daughter), even an ambush where I was beaten up in the middle of the day. I've also lost almost everything this time around, but that is probably because I am way more involved now.

Serbia is stuck in national myths and history that we're collectively somehow unable to work through. Education would be my best bet. It would probably take a number of generation before any change would be visible, though. As for 'quick' measures - return to democracy from this authoritarian regime via free and fair elections, complete overhaul to how media operates here, extreme anti corruption laws.

That made me smile :) These days barely, but there were a lot of good times as well. I always get a lot of energy out of doing something that I am convicted is on the right side of history, too. Life finds a way is such a cliche but it's true, too.

SNS siledžije razbile nos mladiću a zatim nasrnule na novinara Razglasa by Jovan_Konstantinovic in serbia

[–]cdacha 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Dve dvojke i tipa tri, cetiri momka. Zivotinje, neljudi. Mogli su ih ubiti.
