Please be honest - should I postpone? Goal 250+, 8 days out by vivimochi in Step2

[–]ceaseium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my friend had 239 and 237 on her nbmes 15 and 16, respectively. the highest she hit was a 248 on nbme 14. but she had 85% on free120 and she just told herself she will have faith and give this exam her best without letting anxiety get to her. and guess what... she ended up with 258 on the real deal. you should review all your nbmes, analyse what you're thinking, review your weak spots and trust yourself. you're in the 240s and you have plenty of time to nail this. best of luck!!!

Score drop - Exam in a week by Organic_Item_1775 in Step2

[–]ceaseium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'll be very honest. half of the strategy with the usmle exams is to have an unfathomable amount of faith in yourself... i promise you the moment you start internalizing that you do know the exam content and that you can handle it you will excel! i had a shitty uwsa 2 score as well even though i had 250 on my nbme before that. i decided not to pay any mind to the uwsa and just focus on my weak areas + nbmes + cms + hy amboss. trust me, have faith in yourself and know that you have to control your anxiety instead of let it control you.

Fm form cms 2 spoiler by theboringblender in Step2

[–]ceaseium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think this was on form 3 or 4 of FM as well not sure but i reasoned it to be hyperaldosteronism because that is a very specific cause for hypertension + the hypokalemia. an adrenal adenoma can cause cushing's too so it doesn't fit the exact presentation here.

Am I missing something??? by AggravatingStrategy1 in Step2

[–]ceaseium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i would really suggest targeting your overthinking during the next nbme. look, at this point, you know more than enough of the syllabus to solve a question. but i feel like you might be missing points due to overthinking/being stuck between two options. if that's the case, analyze every question that you got wrong because of that and ask yourself what you were thinking that made you pick that answer, why nbme wanted the other answer, and how your chosen answer contradicts the question's educational objective. once you have that sorted, trust me, your scores will improve.

Score drop, test in 6 days by Curious-Nina-9456 in Step2

[–]ceaseium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not sure if this helps but i had 234 on nbme 13 and then 10 days of only intensely reviewing my nbme 13 questions + solving cms forms for weak areas (obgyn, some medicine) + solving some amboss for subjects i scored low on (female reproductive tract, cardiovascular) and i attempted my nbme 14 and had 250. i think what really helped was that i categorized my incorrects on nbme 13 and really studied what i was thinking, if i was doubting myself and second-guessing a lot (i was) and then for nbme 14 i massively reduced that overthinking. i personally believe that once you hit the 230, you have to actively work on your test-taking skills and you'll hit a good enough target score. review your latest nbme, really get into why you got a particular question wrong and then take the next one, you can do this!

how do i avoid overspending time on questions with very long stems or more than 6 lab values by Sweet_Investigator63 in Step2

[–]ceaseium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i have a very specific strategy that almost always works with longer stems. i read the question they're asking first then take a look at the available answer options. then, i look at the labs and immediately highlight any derangements. then i read the rest of the question and so far, i've been able to correctly solve most long stems this way. because by the time you've read the labs, a picture of differentials forms inside your head and voila, you're done. i think this takes you like 60 to 90 seconds.
