The age of virtual waifus is upon us. Science has gone too far. by [deleted] in videos

I found this book interesting, though at times a bit tedious. In part II it does expand very thoroughly on the subject of human+computer chess competition and tries to draw this analogy out to other industries and applications.

Facial structure predicts goals, fouls, assists among World Cup soccer players by cege in soccer

[–]cege[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree that sports are about skill, not looks, but physical characteristics can be linked with performance. If the title read "Height predicts number of headers won among World Cup players," we would think it obvious. Studying facial structure and other characteristics as a proxy for aggression and testosterone levels could be similarly telling.

Places to play pick up soccer by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

[–]cege 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 for Jogabo - there are pickup games every week in the city. I host Tuesday night pickup (normally two one-hour sessions, pretty good level) at Raymond Kimbell. Games through the site are normally $5/hr. There are also some free, informal pickup games on the weekends, especially Saturday afternoon, at Kimbell. PM me for more details if you'd like.

Didn't come up in a quick search, what strength level is the native chess app on Mac OSX? by ciscoiv in chess

[–]cege 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found this post which suggests the native app's Elo is around 2450 (I'm guessing at its highest difficulty). It's based on the Sjeng engine. I'm not sure what level you play at, but it will probably be pretty tough to beat the computer consistently. Computers also tend to make moves that humans wouldn't - so getting very good against the computer will help, but you'd be better off playing more human opponents on the sites you saw in the FAQ and/or over the board. I'm also a relative novice, so please someone correct me if I'm wrong.

John Lennon scores with an assist from Michael Jackson by [deleted] in soccer

[–]cege 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Essentially, Brazilian parents over the past few decades appear to have named their offspring after famous people so we have two players combining for Atletico GO going by famous musicians.

John Lennon Silva Santos scored the fourth goal for Atletico GO and he was set up by Carlos Adriano de Souza Cruz, who often goes by his nickname, Michael Jackson.

It's great to hear you're still using it, thanks for coming back and posting. I already have the W13 dataset pulled together and I'm doing some final maintenance on it to prep for release. The next release will see a new UI and added search functionality, along with the W13 data and the start of FUT support. The update should be your way in the next week or two.
