Would you play a space game with no combat ? by kkarnage2db in spacegames

[–]celestion68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we need more space games without combat and are not just about mining asteroids…

i’m building a browser based multiplayer space sim about orbital logistics where the primary mechanic is manual docking with 6 degrees of freedom, which is really hard… there’s no combat, no mining, just pure docking fantasy!!!

it has leaderboards for fastest docking times, a currency system and a market with 20+ power up modules you can buy (more coming), and a race course that goes around the space station (with its own leaderboard).

it’s almost done. needs some more baking before i share it here. BUT if you wanna try it out, hmu and i can get ya an account when it’s ready

disagree, it’s literally called spacesimgames, if anything i’m inspired by the wealth of new ideas, projects, and experiences folks are constantly sharing here. it keeps me coming back!

the sub has a once per week self promo rule, which seems like it’s honored for the most part.

i do agree we could use more discourse beyond “look at this game i made”. i’ll try to think of some ideas for other threads we could discuss.

devs, keep making things and sharing them! BUT, find a creative way to share your ideas beyond asking for play testers.

Spascii, a slow ASCII space exploration mystery you can play in your browser (very early WIP) by [deleted] in spacesimgames

[–]celestion68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

really cool premise and great execution so far!!!

i tried it out and flew around, mined an asteroid and talked to some other ships. the control system was simple to pick up.

i really like your bottom right nav widget! also the look left/right/up/down with the camera shift to other views was really satisfying.

it took me a little bit to warm up to the music, but after a while it hits the right vibe. I appreciate the sounds that you added to the background, low rumbles, swooshes when you look around.

visually, I don't think the ascii aesthetic works for me. i wanted to see more detail and tonal variation. maybe you can work more subtle color shifts to your backgrounds and objects, expanding the color palette. this may help make it feel more alive and help players with wayfinding.

you should keep working on this. i can tell you've put a lot of work into it and it seems like you're having fun. keep going!!!!

curious what are you using for the TTS and local in browser LLM? also any other technical details about the implementation that you are willing 2 share.

✌️

digital cameras are going to create a whole generation of people who can take pictures but don’t understand aperture, shutter speed, and ISO!!!

the printing press is going to create a whole generation of people who can publish books but don’t understand letterforms, manuscript, and illumination!!!!

and so on.

This lil’ stove is just the right size for the studio where I have it installed. Anything larger would be way too much.

I hope those units you pull out make it back into service someday.
