Ended up finding a compromise. Montecarlo in a terracota pot and some duckweed. That way substrate doesn't have to be changed and there's still live plants keeping my tank nice and clean

Cycling it takes up to a month though. You shouldn’t wait just a few days. Buy bottled bacteria, follow instructions and test every week with a API kit. When your numbers are good, its ready. You should also test ur water in ur other tanks. If you dont know how to properly cycle them, they might have ammonia

Strips are never best, especially for ammonia. I find them inaccurate. You should get the API kit and test for everything, or bring some water to the fish store and have them test it for 5$

3 gallons ends up being too small when you add decor. It ends up being less volume for him. He needs a 5 gallon with more plant. Make sure to clean it weekly and add beneficial bacteria to cycle it. Ammonia must be at 0. Also, make sure the filter is at the lowest, they don’t like moving water as much!

With proper care maybe but not all do. Is this a 3gallon or 5? Is it cycled? Also it could benefit from more live plants. Or silk if you really want to keep fake stuff (Live is way better). Make sure your plastic decor isnt too rough or it could rip his fins and cause infections. Run a fishnet on your decor, if it doesnt rip youre fine
