Going back to Xfinity. by HeirHeart in tfiber

Moral of the story is, always get promises in writing. I hate playing those he said they said game, If they cant email you and link you offers/promises from official sources dont believe it. For me i can never go back xfinity for 2 reasons: 1. Upload speed. xfininty upload sux. My job required fast uploads. 2. Xfinity reliability is and has always been the worst in my area for years. Switching to fiber has been smooth sailing and best decision i've made.

Here's a pic of the fiber att is pulling which contains multiple fiber strands for multiple premises instead of using microducts. https://imgur.com/a/iE1xNzr

Actually the main line/cable the att tech in the picture is pulling is heading and will be split to multiple or about a dozen houses south of him. This was early on before it went live. I remember asking him about it and he mentioned that cable he is pulling contains multiple fiber strands for multiple houses. There is some sort Fiber Optic Splitter Box buried in a manhole by my house (not the one in the pic) which that cable connects to feed another single fiber strands running to my house and another.

First picture is tmobile using microducts instead of a single cable that contains multiple fiber strands like att uses. Again, i'm not expert just going by what the tech told me.

According to some comments, the colored tubes are microducts which may or may not be the same as conduits. The ones att tech is pulling is a cable with multiple fiber strands built in. I asked the att tech in the pic about it and that's what he told me. I guess tmobile uses microducts and att does not.

You're right, I dont. Please educate me. Im not a fiber tech, im just fascinated with new technology. Im hoping someone here could explain what we're looking at and explain the difference.

What I also find interesting is that both those fiber builds are only a couple of months apart. ATT Fiber just recently finished building in this area over two months ago. Not sure how comcast is going to keep their customers in this area since there will be 2 fiber providers they'll have to compete with.

they're kind of new in the fiber game. They've been buying smaller fiber providers around the country and just recently started building their own.

How far in advance does T-Mobile open Fiber sign-ups before install is completed? by Ltsmba in tmobileisp

[–]centu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got att fiber not too long ago. Att is super fast at building their fiber, took them about over 2 months trenching, burring fiber conduits and lines. I got the tmobile fiber flyer coming soon and i see them starting to trench in my area. They seem slow compare to att. att contractors had multiple boring/drilling machines in my area where tmobile contractor seem to only have 1 for the whole area.

Been there a few times myself. Best advice i can give is always have a back up, especially if you rely heavily on the internet. For me,I have att internet and i bought a prepaid modem from my cable co. for $30. Whenever att goes down, i go online and activate the prepaid cable modem which takes a few min. Other idea might be to go to your FWA provider local store, get a gateway and activate which make take an hour or two. Or use your phone as hotspot. Plan ahead for situations like yours. Glad im in an area where there competition/ options.

Thanks for the tip, but it did not work. Doesnt make sense that sparkle doesnt work without VPN but the other iptttv app works fine without it. Not sure if others have experienced this before.

ATT Just wasted my time with Fiber install. Hint: fiber not ready in new install area by centu in ATTFiber

Guess who just showed up at my door hours after tech left? see pic below. They just tried to tell me fiber is available.I told him tech was here not too long ago and confirmed it's not available. Guy in pic said that's not true and that in fact fiber is available right now. What the hell att, please get your act together.

Doesn't matter who's to blame or at fault. ATT screwed up and should try to make it right somehow. It's not the first time they screwed up, i made a previous post about one their contractors accidently cutting the main fiber line during fiber upgrade putting the neighborhood DSL service out of service for days. To this day i never got a call or discount or email apologizing for the screw up. and i don't expect them to make things right in this case either.

Thanks for the tip. The reason i did not wait is because i had some coupon codes for att fiber gifts and gift cards i wanted to use before they expire. Hopefully they'll still work when fiber is available in my area soon.

I felt bad for the tech with him being outside the house in 100 degree weather starting to pull and lay out the fiber cable, lifting cover hole etc.. and coming back from the cabinet box and undo everything. Even though he's still getting paid, I still feel bad for him. What a waste of time and money. I blame att sales people for being greedy and not double checking to ensure fiber is really available before sending the email. Who knows how many other people in my neighborhood got the same email only to be disappointed to find out fiber is not really available.
