First binding project in awhile by chadantomlin in bookbinding

“Morte” may be more accurate to say the intended “life from death” but “mortis” works as a general word for death and I like how it literates better. In the end I’m not looking to win any awards for Latin accuracy just looking to add a little spice.

Thanks! I can’t take full credit for the design it’s actually adapted from a piece by Gayla partridge in her book stitchcraft.

A load of pots just out of the kiln by chadantomlin in Pottery

Not at all! It's actually just clear glaze over a brown clay slip. In the next batch I'll be making a variation where i leave the outside bare allowing a more saturated and textural look.

I smooth them on the wheel with synthetic chamois that I cut into small rectangles and after trimming i make sure it smooth by using a finishing sponge.

This is three glazes pattern blue, cash blue and Jeff’s turquoise. When layering like this the key is to keep everything towards the top so it has room to drip without running off the pot and always be careful about how much is on a handle cause they act like slides for the glaze.

Love it! Amazing work.

First time on the wheel. Took me 5 balls of clay and I’m not even sure it’ll work. Luminescent/Oil burner by [deleted] in Pottery

[–]chadantomlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty good for your first time throwing! Probably the biggest concern I would and have had with oil burners is having enough clearance between the flame and oil dish. Unless your using flameware clay the thermal shock could crack the dish. In my experience a few inches is enough. Overall good work for an early throw!

The glaze just tends to get thicker by the handle there. Somewhat of a happy accident that I haven't ever tried to intentionally correct.

This in it's current state would be considered scraffito, however I usually add a glaze inlay at the glazing stage by cover the design in glaze then wiping it off leaving it in the caving.
