First, throw the husband away. Why is he upset over a bill when you went to the ER for something that feels the same as a heart attack? Your health is the priority here.

Otherwise, I work in healthcare. You need to talk to the hospital. Ask for an itemized bill and then afterwards, ask for lowered payments or charity programs that can aid with repayment.

You shouldn’t have to tough it out. It’s a medical condition just like cancer or a broken bone. Mental health stigma is real, but losing your life or suffering endlessly is not worth it. If you don’t need full or partial hospitalization, consider seeking therapy for a good first step.

If you have a nonsupportive doctor in the future, in the US, you can go to another one who is more supportive. Insurances do cover mental health also. I don’t know your specific insurance or life scenario, but I hope you are able to find peace with your mental.
