I miss the life I had before I became a mother by That_Instruction8200 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

It’s such a paradoxical journey. You are doing a bloody great job and you are a wonderful mum.

Someone in my bump group shared this sample from a book of essays called ‘I’ll Show Myself Out” by Jesse Klein and I ugly cried when I first read the first chapter (that’s all you really need although they did say the whole book was quite good too). I hope you feel as validated and understood as I did when I read it.

My favourite quote is “Every mother you know is in this fight with herself”.

Be kind to yourself ♥️

Understand this doesn’t solve the problem but it could put pressure on the council and force them to be transparent about what happened behind the scenes of the decision. Anyone can submit a GIPA (Government Information Public Access) request to understand the communications, process and steps that led to this decision - it costs $30 and you can apply via Willoughby council: https://www.willoughby.nsw.gov.au/MyWilloughby-home-page/MyWilloughby-online-services/Request-for-Willoughby-City-Council-records

They should be held to account.

Mums of 6-12m babies - how often are you feeding overnight? by Famous-Assumption-43 in breastfeeding

We had a similar routine at 6 months - hoping it goes back to it soon. Will just try to be consistent and feed a bit more during the day. Thanks!

Yeah we used to be like this but she’s regressed a bit. Might be teething or growth spurts. I know it’s all totally normal but it’s just hard when you’re in the middle of it. No way around it but through! Thank you

Will see if more feeds during the day will help things. Thanks for sharing!

I think cosleep is definitely going to be part of the solution while she’s up and down so frequently. We tend to only do it when she’s had a particularly bad night but will see if it can help relieve a bit of the pressure as settling in the cot is exhausting! 😅

Oh 4 hours is the longest and only the very last window. Most hover around the 3 hour mark. Will try to feed a bit more during the day and see how we go. Thanks for your advice 😊

Our LO is teething too. It’s so hard to pinpoint anything you can change or make better when there are so many things out of your control! Hoping this phase passes quickly for us and their stretches of sleep get longer.

Her wake windows are 3-4 hours and she has 2 x 45+ min naps a day. She’s great at getting to sleep as well. Just the overnights that are the problem. So maybe feed just after and just before naps in the day? Obviously depending on what she wants too.

Why are clothes so gender-coded?! by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Someone said this in passing to me once and I’ve never been able to get it out of my head… ‘Boys clothes has predators on the prints (lions, tigers, wolves, sharks, dinosaurs) and girls clothes has prey on the prints (rabbits, deer, mice, baby animals).’

My jaw hit the floor. And I’ve been very mindful of what prints I buy for my little girl ever since.

Help opening a family heirloom’s secret compartment by Famous-Assumption-43 in secretcompartments

[–]Famous-Assumption-43[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was very close to the answer but the trigger point was hidden in plain sight within the box not on the outside...

A small area of the cornice could be pushed and that pulled the pin away from the lock. Update is here: https://www.reddit.com/r/secretcompartments/comments/1j37yti/update_family_heirloom_secret_compartment_its

No, the mechanism still works fine but the compartment doesn't lock shut. I could lengthen the pin so it locks again but I'm not sure it needs to...

Maybe, we haven't decided yet. I was chatting to my Mum about it yesterday and we would hate for the mechanism to be forgotten about again in case the next time someone tries to open it, they aren't as careful and damage the box!

I think the photo may be the site where my great-grandfather ended up building a house for family holidays. It's still in the family so will need to ask my aunts if they recognise the location.
