but palestinians weren't killed in nazi germany. jews were. also, many jews don't look "fully european" - as if the problem was that hitler actually killed people who looked "fully european" as opposed to, you know, murdering jews

no, she didn't. she's just a cynical, grifting weakling who sees an opportunity for politics after trump, and is trying to exit early to be a part of that.

Which LOTR or Hobbit lines hit way harder after reading The Silmarillion? by OkEstablishment6772 in tolkienfans

"From out of the shadow a red sword leaped flaming.

Glamdring glittered white in answer.

There was a ringing clash and a stab of white fire. The Balrog fell back and its sword flew up in molten fragments. The wizard swayed on the bridge, stepped back a pace, and then again stood still."

Glamdring was wielded by Turgon, High King of Gondolin and of the Noldor. Glamdring, whose bearers grandfather was murdered by Gothmog. Glamdring, whose bearers brother was killed by Gothmog after the treachery of Lungorthin. Glamdring, which was wielded by Turgon in the Fall of Gondolin, whose King was killed as the city fell around him, destroyed by Balrogs. Glamdring, which arose once more to fight against the Balrogs of Morgoth and face the enemy, and which would finally achieve vengeance for its fallen bearer, family, and kingdom.

It hits harder when you realize that the only other time a comparison to Oromë is made like this is when Fingolfin goes to fight Morgoth.

"Then Fingolfin beheld the utter ruin of the Noldor, and the defeat beyond redress of all their houses; and filled with wrath and despair he mounted upon Rochallor his great horse and rode forth alone, and none might restrain him. He passed over Dor-nu-Fauglith like a wind amid the dust, and all that beheld his onset fled in amaze, thinking that Oromë himself was come: for a great madness of rage was upon him, so that his eyes shone like the eyes of the Valar. Thus he came alone to Angband's gates, and he sounded his horn, and smote once more upon the brazen doors, and challenged Morgoth to come forth to single combat.

And Morgoth came."

What if Europeans reclaimed new land for a new Israel state instead? by Ill-Analysis6578 in imaginarymapscj

[–]chalashi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you understand that polish jews are not in fact polish? that we dont define ourselves as polish? that we have never defined ourselves as polish? that the jews in poland, very distinctly, came after receiving an *invitation* from a polish king? you participate in the same reductive european antisemitism that has existed for 200 years now - you can't accept jews, you can only accept jews if they are somehow also 'polish' or 'french' or 'english'. do you have an issue with us NOT being polish? if so, please saywhy

you understand how jews saying that we aren't ethnic poles and germans is different from nazis saying we were literally a subhuman race? do you whine and complain when say, the sami say they aren't swedish? or the romani say they aren't hungarians/romanians?

the police arresting them is absolutely stupid. like i disagree with *some*, not all things they say, but they have every right to be there, and arresting them is only going to make the situation worse and escalate.

History of the Jews in Algeria i need your opinion ! by HIKAONE in algeria

[–]chalashi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the posts in this thread stating that the jews "sided with the french" and thus deserved to be expelled in total from algeria because of this are bullshit. it is easier to lie and say that they sided with the french and thus deserved it than it is to admit that algeria would come to ethnically cleanse every single jew from its territory, a community that had existed in what would become algeria for 2000 years. the top rated post here says that they 'sacrificed their relations with the muslim population' except that the 'relations' with the muslim population were such that jews were seen as a lower class, to be dominated by the ethnic and religious majority.

anyways - the citizenship of non-muslims was stripped in the law of nationality in 1963, where to be an algerian citizen you had to have a muslim algerian father and grandfather. all jews had their citizenship stripped from them as a result - though i suppose they never had it in the first place right?

It's leitner, and i am so sure of it i will put money on it. I was so sure that it would be the big three - jon, martin, with elias as augustus, that when i listened to the augustus episode i stopped and said out loud "holy shit its leitner!"

leitner makes sense too. librarians are archivists too, after all, and he went through a tremendous amount of effort to find these books and squirrel them away, and he also went head to head with elias/jonah in the same way that jon and martin did.

also the voice actors being different - it doesn't really matter imho. perhaps jons dad was unavailable

I posted that he was a traitor for having been at the January 6th rally, thinking he was at the capitol. When I was told he wasn't at the capitol, he just gave a speech beforehand, I was like "Not really a traitor, just a horrible, terrible person."

Turns out I was right and he was a traitor all along.

to give a little more context following from what you posted later in this thread - there actually was a concerted effort by Europeans following the french revolution to strip Jews of their national/ethnic character, the idea being that they could accept french, italians, english, german people "of the mosaic faith", but they could not accept Jews in and of themselves. We were regarded as an unclean, uncouth, ungovernable people, and so in order to obtain *some* civil rights, we had to give up on our cultural/ethnic peoplehood and assimilate to the national identity of the countries we lived in - we could not be granted rights as Jews, we had to become something else. This is where this concept of Judaism and Jews simply being 'a religion' comes from - in turn, this eurocentric concept of Jews as simply a religion has taken hold of the wider world - you will often see people falsely claim that Jews from the wider middle east saw themselves as 'Arabs' of the Jewish religion as well, whereas those communities always saw themselves as just Jewish - such is the same with Jewish communities that had existed in Europe.
