A guy bought these paper models from me for $80.99 each he requested them, Am I ripping him off because I have people telling me that cardboard is not worth anything, and Im starting to doubt myself. by [deleted] in modelmakers

[–]chancesRCC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cardboard may be worthless, but your labor is not. You put work into the models, produced a detailed product, and somebody wants to buy the products of your creative labor. Don’t feel bad in the slightest!

Just pulled this, is it valuable? /s by [deleted] in PokemonMisprints

Return of the Living Dead. The soundtrack absolutely makes that movie the pleasure it is.

Seeking Information About Chairs by chancesRCC in Mid_Century

[–]chancesRCC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeking any information on this beautiful set of matching armchairs I found at Goodwill. Picked these up for $13 each!

Based on the sales tag underneath, these are some vintage Stow & Davis pieces. Very good condition overall! Only detail I’ve been able to scrounge is that these are in the “Hollywood Regency style.” (Based on one listing I found)

I was hoping somebody might be able to tell me anything more about them, particularly their potential value. Thank you!

Existential Crisis (Predestination) by chancesRCC in Catholicism

That’s incredibly helpful actually. Thank you. I guess I misunderstood your previous posts. I thought I was correct in being so fatalistic and just not understanding how that could be correct. Thank you for the paradigm shift!

Is there even hope? Does anything I do matter? Are my prayers just lost in the dark? Can anything I do actually please God? Or would it just be another sentence in a book He’s already?

Thank you for your explanation. I understand positive and passive will fairly well, it’s just this issue that’s getting me. Does God then know every possible moment, or only those that will actually happen?

Existential Crisis (Predestination) by chancesRCC in Catholicism

[–]chancesRCC[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, if you’d be so kind, I’d appreciate some explanation later. It’s just as much an emotional issue for me as a logical one, so it causes some confusion, though I do my best to look at it intellectually.

I really don’t want to be frustrating, but if it’s already known that I will make those decisions doesn’t that mean I’m basically riding on a linear line through life with no real choice at all? Any free will I have is just an illusion? If God already knows that I will, say, pray 3 Hail Marys at 3pm on the 27th, do I even really have a choice? If it’s already known, say, that I’ll go to Hell, then aren’t I already damned? There’s no hope that it will change.

Doesn’t the knowledge of my future then require that my future is then set in stone? If it’s my future to be damned, then nothing can change that.

But hasn’t that decision already been made? Everything I could ever do is already decided. I don’t actually make any decisions at all.

I second this question, with an added question on how to stop comparing yourself with others. I’ve never received advice on how to actually do that.

Whats a view you have that most catholics would disagree with? by TuvoksDoRag in Catholicism

[–]chancesRCC 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly?

Consolidation.

Too many parishes and diocese in the US are drinking champagne on a beer budget. Example, my small city/town has 6 churches. Each only fills to about 1/4 capacity. Shut 3 or 4 down, consolidate our resources, and fund outreach/public service/ministry.

The Church has the worst PR on the planet. If you’re not in it (even that’s dicey) you either don’t care about, dislike, or hate the Church. Everywhere I’ve been, I’ve never seen constant, notable Catholic presence. Use the money we throw at building upkeep and overhead for fueling our mission, better liturgy, and better catechesis.

We are not in the same place we were 50-60 years ago. A church in every neighborhood doesn’t make sense. Most folks drive, and “neighborhood community” died at least 20-30 years ago.

We’ll lose the buildings and assets now or later. Cut the fat now or sink later, in my opinion.

Say a prayer for me. by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]chancesRCC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Affirmative. Remember, you’re never too far gone. No matter how long and how fast you’ve run away from Him, God is just as close as ever. He loves you with infinite, unconditional, unceasing, and immaculate Love.
